Phoebe Waller-Bridge Is No Longer Attached To Mr & Mrs Smith Series
We love to share fun and exciting news over here at Comic Years. But sometimes, there is news that is more of a letdown than anything else. Months ago, it was announced that Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be co-creating and co-starring in an adaptation of Mr & Mrs Smith for Amazon alongside Donald Glover. This dream team is no longer, as Waller-Bridge has excited the project.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge No Longer Moving Forward With The Mr & Mrs Smith Series
Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, may not have been groundbreaking cinema. Still, it was filled with more chemistry than almost any other movie to date and gave us some killer action scenes. So, we were excited to hear that it would be coming back in a straight-to-series adaptation at Amazon Studios. And to make things more exciting, news broke that Pheobe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and Donald Glover (Atlanta) would co-star and co-create.

The adaptation initially came from Glover, who encouraged his pal Waller-Bridge to work on it with him after their time together in Solo: A Star Wars Story. But the pair reportedly had very different “creative visions,” causing Waller-Bridge to exit. Glover remains attached and will co-create and executive produce the series, as well as star in it. There has been no news on any recasting for Waller-Bridge’s part. Despite the change-up, reports insist that it will remain on the schedule for a 2022 release.
If you’re as bummed as we are about fewer Waller-Bridge projects, fear not. There is still lots to look forward to! The actress/writer will appear in the highly anticipated Indiana Jones 5, which is currently in production. She also worked on the script for No Time to Die, which will finally hit theaters soon.
Readers, we know it sucks to hear a favorite leave a project you were looking forward to. The Mr & Mrs Smith news about Phoebe Waller-Bridge is no different. Still, we’re looking forward to the project and can’t wait to hear updates!
