HBO has clarified that Pedro Pascal filming for the second season of The Last of Us is incomplete. It thus denies rumours to the contrary and declares to the media that such claims are “not accurate.”

The speculation about Pedro Pascal’s shooting for The Last of Us season 2 schedule came from Daniel Richtman. This insider posted the information on his Patreon page. Richtman’s report indicated that Pascal had finished filming. He further noted that filming for the remainder of the season was expected to continue until August 2024.

If Pascal had already finished filming, it would have been significant. In addition, showrunner Craig Mazin had previously stated that production was scheduled to begin on February 12, just over a month after the strike-related delays. However, HBO has responded to an inquiry from IGN stating that this information is inaccurate.

Understandably, some viewers of the HBO series are raising eyebrows at the rumors. Also, considering that Pascal’s character Joel and Bella Ramsey’s character Ellie set the pace for the first season, it is to be expected that the rumors will not be long in coming. However, many others weren’t surprised to hear that Pascal’s time on set was brief.

Padro Pascal for The Last of Us Season Two New Updates

HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us closely follows the narrative of the PlayStation game it’s based on. While Season 1 introduced some narrative diversions, overall, it remains faithful to the source material developed by Naughty Dog. Season 2 is expected to continue this trend, offering a live-action interpretation of the controversial video game sequel, The Last of Us Part 2. Although Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog, has indicated that some elements will diverge “radically” from the game, the upcoming episodes will mostly present a story that fans recognize.

This naturally suggests a grim outlook for Joel’s future (and consider this your LAST SPOILER WARNING!). Pedro Pascal The Last of Us character, the cherished gaming father figure, meets his demise roughly an hour or two into The Last of Us Part 2, brutally beaten to death by Abby with a golf club. Hence, when rumors circulated indicating Pascal’s filming was done, fans understandably grew anxious about Joel’s fate in the series.

Even with HBO’s clarification, it’s premature to assume that Joel will somehow evade his tragic fate in Season 2. After all, Joel continues to appear in The Last of Us Part 2 through flashbacks. This implies that Pascal’s interpretation could similarly persist throughout the second season.

In addition, the second season features a cast consisting of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny. Also Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora and Spencer Lord as Owen. All of the characters play an important role in the plot of The Last of Us Part 2. However, none are as crucial to Joel’s fate as Abby. Dever’s character is responsible for Joel’s death in the game, and there is little indication that this narrative thread will deviate in the series.

Fans Want to See Joel Again on The Last of Us

Predictably, fans acquainted with the video game sequel have flooded social media with hints, memes, and prayers, expressing hopes that Pedro Pascal might somehow cheat death in The Last of Us—although such wishes are likely in vain.

When The Last of Us Season 2 debuts next year, we’ll better understand what lies ahead. For further insights into HBO’s adaptation of the cherished video game series, explore our Season 1 review. We awarded the initial episodes a 9/10, describing HBO’s The Last of Us as a breathtaking adaptation that promises to captivate both newcomers and those well-versed in Joel and Ellie’s saga.
