Netflix has not yet revealed The Witcher season 3 release date. However, what we already know is that the series is already filmed. The platform plans to release the third season next summer. According to this information, between June and September we can enjoy the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer and Ciri. Another fact that may be of great interest to fans is that Netflix will upload the chapters at the same time, and not on a weekly basis as other platforms do. 

As for the synopsis, we already know what it will be about. Netflix officially revealed the plot of The Witcher season 3, as well as its approximate release date. It is true that thanks to statements from screenwriters and actors we already knew what kind of plots we will see in the new episodes. This is the official synopsis: 

 “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.”

According to Lauren Schmidt Hissrich’s statements, we know that the season will adapt Time of Hate. This is the fourth book by Andrzej Sapkowsk, where he narrates one of the key parts of this fantasy saga. 

What many are wondering is whether these new chapters will be faithful to Andrzej Sapkowski’s saga. One of the main criticisms received from Witcher with its last episodes was its departure from the original work. Of this information the showrunner and Netflix executives are aware. So at the time they were reporting The Witcher season 3 release date, they also made some comments about it. From their statements we extract that this new season will be more faithful to the source material. Despite this, there will be slight modifications to surprise the most diehard readers:

“The third season is, for me, the closest to the books we have done in terms of adaptation. Of course, we didn’t transfer all the pages, but Hateful Time has given us several great action moments, plot twists, character-defining moments and big revelations about the villain. There was so much to work with that we managed to stay very true to the book.”

The third season of The Witcher will have a release date between June and September 2023. However, filming has been underway since shortly after the second season’s premiere. Filming took place in different locations, such as Italy, Croatia, and the United Kingdom. This variety of landscapes promises to add quality to the final result. As we can see, the team took the trouble to travel around different countries instead of resorting to stagecraft or CGI. This effort is to be appreciated, and it will surely show in the final quality.

As for the cast, we will count on Henry Cavill as the main character. Despite his departure from the series, this occurred shortly after the British actor filmed this third season.
