Disney and LucasFilm had discussed the production of several Star Wars series for their streaming platform. These include Andor, which recently premiered, and Ashoka. The latter will tell the story of Anakin Skywalker’s (Darth Vader) apprentice. One of the latest announcements in the Star Wars franchise was The Acolyte series, which already has a definite cast.

Disney has just issued an announcement confirming that the team of actors that will be part of this filming is complete. They also stated who the main characters and the other artists will participate, as well as their producers and directors.

According to several directors’ statements, the story is set in the era of the high republic. This could indicate that we could see old characters in the Jedi world. An example would be Master Windu, Yoda, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, considering that the order in this era still existed.

This series has been in plans since 2020, despite the time it remains, although it still has yet to have a premiere date if it has a plot and script designed.

The Cast of Star Wars: The Acolyte

In a recent statement, Disney confirmed that it has already selected the cast of the Star Wars: The Acolyte series. The saga will star Amandla Stenberg, who starred in the film The Hate U Give and The Eddy Series. It will also feature Lee Jung-Jae from Netflix’s The Squid Game.

Nine Perfect Strangers’ Manny Jacinto will also be in the production, as will The Dark Matter’s Dafne Keen, Queen and Slim’s Jodie Turner-Smith, Russian Doll’s Charlie Barnett, The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss, Inventing Anna’s Rebecca Henderson, and 1917’s Dean-Charles Chapman.

As for the direction and production of Star Wars, Acolyte is in charge of Leslye Headland. She created the script and will also participate as director and executive producer of the series. So far, she will lead the first episode of the series, although the possibility of her being in other episodes is not denied.

The rest of the production team comprises Kathleen Kennedy, Jeff F. King, Simon Emanuel, and Jason Micallef, who will be executive producers of this saga. Meanwhile, Damian Anderson and Rayne Roberts will participate as producers.

This series will be a Thriller and Mystery series, whose description has already been published: “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated”.

Production will likely begin soon with the cast defined and the script ready. However, there is no official premiere date for the series, nor how many episodes it will have.

Disney Pushes Ahead with Star Wars Shows

Disney is pushing the Star Wars franchise through series on its streaming platform. The movies of the last trilogy left much to be desired for fans. However, they have found their place in the series.

We can see this new path with new productions such as Star Wars, The Acolyte, and those about to be released. One of them is Andor, which is a different bet in Disney +. We also have The Mandalorian, which is heading towards its third season and premieres in February 2023. In addition, we have Ashoka, which premieres in 2023, although the exact date has yet to be determined.

Other Star Wars films are Obi-Wan KenobiThe Book of Bobba Fett, and soon The Acolyte. The vast majority were announced in 2020, and despite being a bit delayed in their release, these have had considerable success. This denotes that Disney takes advantage of the series on its platform despite the whole situation with movies in theaters. A very curious detail is the possibility that Disney is looking to provide a new twist.

Considering the point of view of the plot of Star Wars The Acolyte. It is worth noting that their description shows it as the emerging development of warriors from the dark side of the force. In this series, they will focus on the side of the Sith, which would be a distinctive touch.
