Doctor Who Casts Game Of Thrones’ Indira Varma In Its Lineup

The development of the 14th installment of the Doctor Who franchise is moving forward. Now hiring all the actors that will participate in this production. One of the actresses in the cast crossed the frozen lands of the medieval era to great galactic frontiers to join this universe. The new actress is Indira Varma, known for participating in the famous HBO series, Game Of Thrones. She also had her participation in the Disney + series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which was remarkable. Now she will play the role of the Duchess. Although, in previous installments of this franchise, she played the role of Suzie Costello.

The BBC announced that Indira Varma, the Game of Thrones and Obi-Wan Kenobi actress, would be in the new installment of the Doctor Who franchise. She had already appeared in this saga, but in the character of Suzie Costello, in an instalment derived from Russell T Davies’ Torchwood.

Regarding her appearance, Indira Varma commented that she wishes to have fun with the Doctor on a multiversal journey. She also added that she was delighted with her role as Suzie Costello. About this, the actress said the following: 

“I’m thrilled to be in Doctor Who and particularly excited to be crossing cosmic paths with Ncuti, as the Doctor, and look forward to creating interplanetary mischief with him. I loved playing Suzie Costello for Russell T Davies in Torchwood so am thrilled to be entering this world again”.

Another to comment on her integration into the new Doctor Who saga was Russell T Davies, the showrunner of the series. He said that he is happy with Indira’s participation in this new production and that she had a good time after participating in Torchwood. About this, he indicated:

“I’m overjoyed to be reunited with Indira after our Torchwood days, and this part is truly spectacular!. A whole new audience will hide behind the settee when the Duchess unleashes her terror”.

An Actress with a Rising Career

Indira Varma’s imprint on the current scene since her appearance in Game of Thrones is indelible. She also participated in Obi-Wan Kenobi, playing Tala in this Disney+ series.

Other productions in which the actress participated were Obsession, a production in which she received good reviews. She was also awarded the Oliver Award for her role in Present Laughter as Liz Essendine. She also had good performances in Man and Superman and The Seagull.

We should add her previous participation in the Doctor Who franchise, which had excellent reviews, boosting her appearance in this new saga. 

Now Game of Thrones actress Indira Varma will have a new appearance as the Duchess and will be within the Disney + platform. However, it will not be in all countries, as it can only be seen in the United Kingdom and Ireland, excluding the other markets of this streaming platform.

The premiere of this new series will be in November 2023. This will show the appearance of David Tennant. He was the fourteenth Doctor Who and will appear in special episodes to honor him. After that, we will have the first chapter of the new interpreter of this character named Ncuti Gatwa. The presentation of Tennant will coincide with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the character, while the premiere of Gatwa will be on holiday.
