The Flash, a series based on DC Comics character Barry Allen, the superhero moving at superhuman speed, is officially cancelled. The CW Network confirmed that the series’ ninth season would be the last we will see. The announcement brought a lot of controversies, especially for fans eager to continue following the famous show.

Deadline had already predicted the cancellation when they reported speculating that season 9 could be the last. The rumor started in January when star Grant Gustin signed a contract for only one year, which limited his participation in season 9. The Flash promoters announced that they are retaining original members, Danielle Panabaker and Candice Patton, with Jesse L. Martin returning, for up to five episodes of The Flash’s ninth season.

The Flash is Cancelled Officially

The Flash is officially ending after its ninth season, estimated to debut on the network in early 2023. The series will feature only 13 episodes, marking the end of an era for The CW’s The Flash. This show began in 2014 and became one of the most watched and popular on the network.

The Flash’s nine seasons showed how action and adventure are present in trying to save Central City. The show has been girded with a tremendously emotional journey, full of love and spect. The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace communicated this enthusiastically: “Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race.” Wallace added, “So many amazing people have given their talents, time, and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week. So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers, and crew over the years who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world. ”

While it is true that The Flash did not maintain the same enthusiastic reviews in the last seasons that accompanied it initially, it was a great show for The CW. They held an average of more than 1 million linear viewers each week, which led them to rank among the most streamed shows on the network.

Fans Lament

For fans of The Flash, its end is regrettable; they were waiting for an announcement but not of this kind, and now mourn the loss of The CW’s superhero franchise.

One of the things that characterized this series was its long duration in the Arrowverse, which will conclude with season 9. Some think this shared universe of superheroes is already at its end. Many fans could visualize that the franchise’s end was near, especially by the abrupt end in just six months of series like Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman.

Social media were crowded with Arrowverse fans expressing their disappointment with the final closure of The Flash and the franchise. Especially since The Flash has ranked as the top CW series, holding itself as one of the best. When season 8 ended, they finished as one of the network’s most-watched shows in the 2021 – 2022 season, ranking among the most played shows on digital platforms.

Other fans took the opportunity to mention how the Arrowverse maintained a continuity that the DCEU doesn’t have. Interestingly, The Flash movie, starring Ezra Miller, has been delayed multiple times due to numerous problems with its leading star.
