Godzilla vs Kong 2 has no official title so far. However, its current working title suggests it could be about the titans’ origins. Its prequel, Godzilla vs Kong, was a great success despite all the production problems and delays. Most of the inconveniences were due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, it had a global gross of 470 million dollars and a budget between 155 and 200 million dollars.

These numbers led Warner to approve the release of a new sequel to the fight between these two titans. The movie will be the fifth Legendary’s MonsterVerse production, featuring director Adam Wingard. Warner has not yet confirmed the plot, but some photos that came to light gave an idea.

Godzilla vs Kong 2 Could be an Origin Story

A photo leaked on Twitter by @KDM_Monsters shows that the working title of this film is “Origins”, implying that we could see the origin of these two giants or the reason for their quarrel.

Working titles are generally used momentarily in products with no official name until the director or producers designate one. Nonetheless, big companies such as Marvel, Warner or Legendary use working titles to establish the film’s plot. That opens several possibilities for this film’s story, starting with the Titans’ origins. It could occur on Skull Island, with Godzilla as the king of the titans and Kong wanting to take its place, as the monsters constantly fought for the throne.

Another theory that comes to life is that both creatures were guardians of very ancient civilizations. These revered them; however, a confrontation caused them to clash, and they have done so ever since. You could see how often they have fought and how this carried over to the present era.

A third possibility would be seeing how the Titans were created from time immemorial and how they survived all this time.

Everything we Know

The movie is in production in Australia. Adam Wingard is directing it, and there is some information about the cast. The first is the addition of Dan Stevens, the star of The Guest and Downton Abbey, as the star of this MonsterVerse production. Steven is so far the only confirmed actor in this production.

It’s unclear if the other stars of the previous movies, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Alexander Skarsgård, Kyle Chandler, and Brian Tyree Henry, will return for this sequel as part of the human heroes. We will have to wait for Warner’s statements to verify if they will continue in the saga.

Filming will begin by the end of July 2022. Leaked footage showed scenes of a fight between the two giants on one of the beaches of Australia. The same continues, and according to Warner and Legendary, it would be available on March 15, 2024.

As for the movie’s plot and title, we will have to wait for official statements from Warner and Legendary. We may have some of the scenarios mentioned, although there is an additional rumor. It theorizes on the origin of Kong’s Son and how a fight develops between Godzilla and the descendant of this giant gorilla.

All are guesses so far. We will have to wait for Warner Bros Studio and Legendary to provide more information on this movie, whether it is the synopsis, trailer, actors in the cast or the official title, to know what we will experience in March 2024.
