Namely, Hell’s Paradise has emerged as one of the most popular anime projects of 2023. The debut season concluded with Episode 13, “Dreams and Reality,” leaving viewers on a cliffhanger with the introduction of a new character.
Fans have praised Jigokuraku for its impressive action sequences, unique visual style, creative use of gore, and unexpected plot twists. Moreover, it is also part of the “Dark Shonen Trio,” along with Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, representing a new wave of influential modern animanga properties.
Jigokuraku Season 2 will continue to adapt the “Lord Tensen” arc from the manga. Moreover, this arc spans 43 chapters, making it the second longest in the series. The most recent episode covered halfway through Chapter 45. This means that there is plenty of material remaining for creators to explain in the upcoming season.
What is Hell’s Paradise About?
The anime adaptation of Yuji Kaku’s manga introduces us to Gabimaru the Hollow, a formidable shinobi who miraculously survives multiple execution attempts. However, his resilience comes to a test when he encounters the expert executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, who almost beheads him.
Both Gabimaru and Sagiri go to the perilous island in search of the “Elixir of Life,” accompanied by a group of death-sentenced prisoners. What begins as a battle royale for the Elixir evolves into a harrowing struggle against terrifying creatures and seemingly invincible gods.
The main cast of Jigokuraku season 2 (and 1) includes Chiaki Kobayashi and Alejandro Saab as Gabimaru. In addition, there are Yumiri Hanamori and Marisa Duran as Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, Rie Takahashi as Yuzuriha. Lastly, Tetsu Inada will voice Tamiya Gantetsusai.
The Hell’s Paradise manga concluded in January 2021, spanning 13 volumes and 127 chapters. After its completion, Yuji Kaku embarked on a new serialized project titled Ayashimon for Weekly Shōnen Jump. You can catch MAPPA’s anime adaptation of Jigokuraku season 2 on Crunchyroll!
