Powerpuff Girls Cast: See Who Will Be Playing Live-Action Heroines

As I noted in my piece on newly-ordered CW pilots last month, one of those pilots is a live-action version of the Cartoon Network classic The Powerpuff Girls. Since The CW ordered the series to pilot, the folks behind the show have wasted no time in beginning production. Step one? A Powerpuff Girls cast.

The Live-Action Girls Will Be An Older, Not Necessarily Wiser Version

As with Riverdale and its time skip, this new version of The Powerpuff Girls will also be fast-forwarding. Instead of the powerful little gals you once knew, the focus of this show is more like the Powerpuff Women. As for the premise, when you think about it, it’s not an unfamiliar story. Just think of any child star, for example. It can be hard for them to move past that initial burst of fame into an established career. Sometimes it’s like people just can’t think of them as anything but child stars.

And on a basic level, isn’t that what the Powerpuff Girls were? So that’s what the new show will explore. Once little superheroes, they’re now a trio of “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting,” as the official show description says. They’re not those wunderkinder anymore, so what are they?

Well, we’ll find out. But at least we know who they are right now. Here’s the corporate tea. Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault are the new Powerpuff Girls cast. Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will play Blossom Utonium, whom you might remember as the red-headed leader of the trio. Now she has multiple degrees.

Dove Cameron (Descendants) is playing Bubbles Utonium, the blonde. She’s still as sweet as she was as a kid, but she’s tougher now. And musician Yana Perrault, who’s appeared on Broadway in the Jagged Little Pill musical, is playing Buttercup Utonium, who was the one with black hair. As for her, she still uses a rough exterior as a mask for her vulnerabilities. Unlike Bubbles, she’s not interested in still being a star, and tries to live a more private life.

It’s unknown right now when filming will begin, or when we can expect the show. There’s also no word on whether fourth Powerpuff Girl Bliss will join the cast or who is playing Professor Utonium. We’ll let you know, though.

What do you think of the new Powerpuff Girls cast? Tell us in the comments or on our social media.
