Although we don’t know the exact release date, we expect it to come out around May 19, 2024, which is the actual anniversary of The Phantom Menace.

This unique comic promises to be an important addition to Star Wars history. It will also delve into unknown aspects of the iconic film. Written by Greg Pak, the comic is expected to reveal “eye-opening” stories, exploring the early days and secret inner life of Anakin Skywalker. It will also offer the classic film’s never-before-seen before, after and behind-the-scenes perspectives.

Expanding The Phantom Menace Story in Anniversary Comic: Star Wars

Unveiled on Greg Pak’s official website, the comic is a standalone issue set to release in May, although no specific date has been provided. May 19, the actual anniversary of The Phantom Menace, seems a probable option, or alternatively, on Star Wars day: May 4.

“Big news! I’m writing a huge anniversary special for The Phantom Menace, drawn by Will Sliny, in stores this May,” Pak said. “If you’ve been enjoying my Darth Vader series, you absolutely don’t want to miss this deep dive into the heart and soul of young Anakin.”

This “significant” edition is set to unveil “revealing” narratives, as per its official synopsis. It promises to “delve into the early days and hidden inner life of Anakin Skywalker. Also, it will introduce previously unrevealed stories occurring before, after, and between the scenes of the iconic movie.”

“Featuring the dream of a Jedi, the gift of a Tusken Raider, the heart of a Gungan, the ache of a mother, and the horror of a hero.”

Although The Phantom Menace, along with the entire prequel trilogy, has stirred controversy within the Star Wars community. However, there has been a remarkable shift in perception.

Even Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequels, has acknowledged the evolution of sentiment. The actor has noted that there is a “wave of positivity” surrounding the trilogy. This resurgence of appreciation suggests a growing recognition of the unique contributions and narrative elements introduced by The Phantom Menace and its counterparts.
