Although Blumhouse already has an ongoing anthology film series with Hulu called The Current Occupant (read the review here), they’re not resting on their laurels. It turns out that Blumhouse and Amazon are also launching their own series, Welcome to the Blumhouse.

Blumhouse And Amazon Series Has Eight Movies So Far, Four To Start

Like Blumhouse Television’s Hulu series, Into the Dark, Welcome to the Blumhouse will be themed. According to the press release, for example, “…each film presents a distinctive vision and unique perspective on common themes centered around family and love as redemptive or destructive forces.”

Four films will debut this year, airing as double features. The remaining four movies will drop on Prime Video some time next year. The first double feature will comprise The Lie, written and directed by Veena Sud (The Killing), and Black Box, written and directed by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour.

The Lie will star The Killing alum Mireille Enos, along with Peter Sarsgaard and Joey King. It will explore what happens when a mom and dad, presumably Enos and Sarsgaard, try to cover up the murder their daughter committed.

After a series of shorts, Osei-Kuffour makes his feature debut with Black Box, which stars Mamoudou Athie and Phylicia Rashad. It will follow a man who lost his memory after a car accident that also left him a widower. He tries a new kind of therapy, but is troubled by the results. That’s because the therapy returns memories that seem much darker than he wants to accept.

The Second Double Feature Will Include Evil Eye And Nocturne

Starring Sunita Mani and perfect hair queen Sarita Choudhury, Evil Eye is based on the Audible Original story by Madhuri Shekar. It’s about a mom who believes that her daughter’s new beau is the reincarnation of a man mom once knew. A man, incidentally, who tried to kill her.

Evil Eye will be paired with Zu Quirk’s Nocturne, in which Sydney Sweeney and Madison Iseman star. One of them will play a shy music student who finds a notebook and then makes a “Faustian bargain” to increase her school success. The notebook belonged to another student who recently died, so I’m sure everything will turn out great.

The first two movies, The Lie and Black Box, will drop on October 6. Evil Eye and Nocturne will follow the next week on October 13. Check back with Amazon Prime Video for further details closer to those dates. And check back here to see what Mean Movie Lady has to say about ’em.
