The Punisher 3 movie is coming to Disney+ as stated by Rosario Dawson. Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has enjoyed great success with its many Disney+ programs, but street-level Marvel heroes had their Netflix home long before Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel defended the small screen. One of the most popular shows on the site was The Punisher. Now, it’s “happening again,” according to former Marvel star Rosario Dawson, three years after that gory adaptation ended.

This past weekend at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Dawson made the announcement during a panel. Dawson played Claire Temple throughout the most of the Netflix Marvel series. This includes Daredevil, Luke Cage, and The Defenders, but that’s not much to go on. She essentially served as Netflix’s take on the Night Nurse character from Marvel. The debate on the canon status of characters like Daredevil and The Punisher used to be heavy. Now, though, it’s clear that both characters are canon to the MCU and coming with their own series.

Rosario Dawson didn’t appear on The Punisher

Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher was one of the few programs she didn’t appear on, as the actress acknowledged. Dawson seems to want to change that by participating in the proposed new series. The Punisher on Netflix made his début in Daredevil’s second season before departing to form his own show in 2017. During C2E2, Dawson also praised Jon Bernthal’s performance as the renowned violent hero. Bernthal’s portrayal of the Punisher would be the picture that would appear next to the description of “pitch-perfect casting” in the dictionary. Even though the show was just two seasons long, it was equally as excellent as Daredevil.

The series delivered everything a fan of the Punisher could want for: it was nasty, bloody, and intensely emotional, and Bernthal gave an outstanding performance. Since playing this legendary character in his breakthrough role, Bernthal has been in high demand, appearing in movies like Ford v Ferrari, Those Who Wish Me Dead, King Richard, and television shows like We Own This City. Given the SDCC announcement that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil would make a comeback in a new 18-episode series dubbed Daredevil: Born Again, it shouldn’t be all that shocking that The Punisher would be returning in some capacity in the MCU.

The gory show is now on Disney+

The Punisher’s transition to Disney+ earlier this year, along with the other Marvel Netflix programs, provided another hint. As Dawson’s comments are not an official announcement, it is unknown if Bernthal will return, but given how well-known the actor is and that Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will also be appearing in Born Again, it is certainly a safe assumption. Maybe even, as he did in his Netflix iteration, The Punisher will complete his circle and make his MCU debut in the upcoming Daredevil series. When D23 takes place the following month, we’ll be on the lookout for more information regarding The Punisher.

A fictional antihero known as The Punisher appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Gerry Conway, a writer, and John Romita, Sr., and Ross Andru, two artists, came up with the character. His real name is Francis “Frank” Castle, born Castiglione. The Punisher made his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 (cover dated February 1974). He was initially portrayed as an assassin and Spider-Man’s foe. Driven by the deaths of his wife and two children, who suffered death by the mafia for witnessing killing in New York City’s Central Park, the Punisher fights one-man war on crime

If Marvel Studios is willing to match the intense R-rated tone of the Netflix series, it will be interesting to watch. You can currently binge-watch the first Punisher series on Disney+ as we wait for more information, like as whether Bernthal or Dawson will return. See the video below of Dawson speaking about The Punisher at C2E2.
