Star Wars Celebration kicked off with a bang, as Lucasfilm officially announced Star Wars Skeleton Crew. We had no idea that this show was even in the works. So, Lucasfilm’s announcement came as quite a surprise to everyone. However, we’re sure that it’s going to be great!

What is Star Wars Skeleton Crew?

Unfortunately, Lucasfilm didn’t reveal much about this new TV show. One of the few things that we do know is Star Wars Skeleton Crew will be another Disney+ exclusive. We also know that it’s coming out at some point during 2023.

In terms of the plot, Lucasfilm revealed that the show will focus on a group of 10-year-old children. These children were originally from a smaller, lesser-known planet, but they encounter some kind of trouble. So, their aim is to get back to their original home finally.

It might seem like Lucasfilm is aiming Star Wars Skeleton Crew at children, given the age of the actors. However, the team confirmed that they are still targeting an adult audience. So, we can expect lots of challenging themes in the show.

We know another juicy detail that Star Wars Skeleton Crew is set during a challenging time for the Star Wars universe. Namely, it will occur alongside TV shows like Ahsoka and The Mandalorian. As such, this means that the show will be set against the backdrop of Return of the Jedi.

This period of time is when Luke Skywalker seemingly defeated the Empire. However, the First Order was waiting in the shadows to take over, leading to the conflicts of the sequel series. Previously, we saw some of this groundwork take place in The Mandalorian, with characters such as Moff Gideon. So, we can expect that the show will give us some more details about how the First Order came to power.

Star Wars Skeleton Crew is just one of a few new TV shows taking place concurrently with key events from the Star Wars franchise. For example, the Andor series takes place in the lead-up to Rogue One, which leads directly into A New Hope. It’s great to see Lucasfilm and Disney are committed to plugging in some of the gaps in the franchise. Star Wars Skeleton Crew, Ahsoka, and season 3 of The Mandalorian will all debut in 2023. It’s going to be a busy year!

Who is in the show?

Sadly, we don’t know a whole lot about the actors starring in Star Wars Skeleton Crew. However, Lucasfilm did announce one major actor who’s finally setting foot in a galaxy far, far away. It’s the English actor, Jude Law! We’re not sure what role he’s taking for the series, but we’re already super excited for it.

As well as this, we also know that Jon Watts and Christopher Ford created the series. You might know this duo as being the masterminds behind Spider-Man: No Way Home. Additionally, long-term Star Wars producers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will also work on Star Wars Skeleton Crew. Clearly, it’s going to be an epic show!

Before the official announcement came today, there were rumours about a similar show in the works. This was called “Grammar Rodeo” while the show was under wraps. The original leaks said that the show would have a lot of similarities with iconic coming-of-age films of the 1980s. Namely, the leakers said it was close to the Amblin movies of this genre, just with a Star Wars twist.

At the moment, that’s all that we know about Star Wars Skeleton Crew. It’s unlikely that we’ll get any more key information at Star Wars Celebration 2022. Even so, Lucasfilm confirming the show is coming next year means that we’ve got a pretty extensive 2023. To keep updated with all the news from a galaxy far, far away, stick around with ComicYears.
