The Fantastic Beasts 3 Trailer Shows Us A New Version Of Dumbledore’s Army
It’s Monday, December 13, and you know what that means! The Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer is here! Over the weekend we got a teaser trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which gave us a glimpse of Mads Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald for about…one second. I’m happy to report that the official trailer gives us more than a glimpse, and I’m definitely excited to see Mikkelsen as the OG Dark Wizard. But what else can fans look forward to? Keep reading!

The trailer begins with Magizoologist Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) and his brother, Theseus (played by Callum Turner), searching for Albus Dumbledore, who is once again being played by thirst trap Jude Law. Newt has been recruited by Dumbledore to take down Gellert Grindelwald, who is building up his army and preparing for the ultimate wizarding world war. Why recruit a Magizoologist? In an interview with CinemaBlend, Redmayne said that Albus Dumbledore chooses Newt for several reasons:
“I feel like Newt’s skillset is quite unique, and I don’t just mean with beasts. I mean with empathy. His capacity to see broken people and to reach out to broken people is a skillset which is pretty unique. And it’s one of the things that Dumbledore has always, since he was a kid, seen in Newt.”
If you recall in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (the second in the five-part film series), Grindelwald and Dumbledore made a pact in their youth that prevents them from dueling each other, thus the reason why he’s recruiting Newt and his friends rather than trying to take on the Dark Wizard himself. The dream team will consist of “a Magizoologist (Newt Scamander), his indispensable assistant (Bunty), a wizard descended from a very old family (Yusuf Kama, half-brother of Leta Lestrange), a schoolteacher (Eulalie Hicks), and a Muggle (Jacob Kowalski).” It also appears that Theseus is part of the group too. The trailer is exciting in that it makes several nods to the original Harry Potter story, including a Quidditch game, the Room of Requirement, and Dumbledore doling out points to the Houses (“three points to Hufflepuff!”). There are some pretty awesome looking battle scenes, especially between Credence and Dumbledore, and I’m especially curious to see how Credence being a Dumbledore will play into the plot.
Former Harry Potter director David Yates (he directed the later four films in the Harry Potter series and the first two films of the Fantastic Beasts series) will return for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The cast also includes Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol (they play sisters Tina and Queenie Goldstein); Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone, who also happens to be part of the Dumbledore family!); Dan Fogler (Muggle Jacob Kowalski) and Jessica Williams (Eulalie Hicks, a Charms professor at the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry).
