How will the Superman suit change in the upcoming DC reboot? The Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) merger, which took place last year, led to a major restructuring and the exit of former DC head Walter Hamada. James Gunn, renowned for his work in the MCU with the Guardians of the Galaxy series, has now assumed the role.

As CEO alongside co-CEO Peter Safran, James Gunn plays a vital role in transforming the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). In addition, he is coming to change the one we originally knew for iconic characters such as Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and Henry Cavill’s Superman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Under the revamped DC Universe (DCU), the inaugural project will reboot the Superman franchise titled Superman: Legacy.

New Details About Superman Costume in DC Reboot

New details about the expected Superman: Legacy have come to light. This time, they shed light on the new costume to be worn by David Corenswet, who will play the iconic Clark Kent/Superman character. James Gunn, who has previously directed DC projects such as Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker (2021). In addition, he has now taken on a major creative role within DC Studios. In this capacity, he plays a key role in shaping the creative trajectory of the DC Universe (DCU). Even on par with Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios. DC Studios is currently gearing up for an ambitious multi-chapter adventure that promises a distinctive approach to the superhero media landscape. It also seeks to offer audiences a departure from Marvel Studios’ storytelling styles.

Crafted and helmed by James Gunn, the upcoming DC film, Superman: Legacy, marks a substantial reboot of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013). The cast of Superman: Legacy features Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) making his return to the DC universe, portraying Metamorpho.

Nicholas Hoult (Renfield, X-Men: First Class) takes on the role of the nefarious Lex Luthor, with Sara Sampaio, a Victoria’s Secret model, joining the cast as Luthor’s partner-in-crime Eve Teschmacher. Skyler Gisondo is confirmed to play Clark Kent’s best friend Jimmy Olsen, confirming a previous rumor. The star-studded ensemble promises an intriguing and fresh take on the beloved Superman mythology.

According to a tweet from writer/producer Dan Marcus on X (formerly Twitter), he discussed the new Superman costume for David Corenswet in Superman: Legacy. The filmmaker says he is willing to challenge fans’ expectations. In addition, Marcus notes that the suit design is expected to deviate significantly from what fans might anticipate. This has generated curiosity about possible fan reactions when the suit is finally revealed.

Dan Marcus weighed in in response to a fan’s question about the Superman: Legacy story. The producer commented in the same Twitter thread that he couldn’t provide specifics, but expressed optimism about James Gunn delivering something special with the reboot. Marcus indicated that, despite the vagueness, he has a good feeling about the project. He further suggested that Gunn could bring a unique and memorable touch to the Superman franchise.

Additionally, James Gunn, in a separate Threads discussion, addressed a fan’s question about David Corenswet’s involvement in the project. Gunn revealed that Corenswet had tried on the previous Superman suit, likely belonging to Henry Cavill, for screen testing.

Interestingly, Corenswet was apparently too tall for the suit. This tidbit adds an intriguing detail to the anticipation surrounding Superman’s new costume in Superman: Legacy.

This came in response to a user’s question about David Corenswet’s costume test with another Superman suit. Here, James Gunn confirmed that everyone who went through the screen tests, including Corenswet, tried on the previous costume. However, Gunn added a notable detail: Corenswet had difficulty fitting into the suit due to his height.

A Production Full of Theories

This information has sparked intriguing fan theories. The culprit was one user, @DrAwesomeX, who suggested the possibility that Gunn opted for a simpler look. Furthermore, the user speculates that Superman’s new costume in Superman: Legacy could resemble the design of the beta Superman from the New 52, with a simple ensemble of T-shirt, cape, jeans and work boots. It is unlikely that this costume will be worn throughout the film. However, the theory suggests that it could represent an early stage in Superman’s career, emphasizing his less prominent status in Metropolis.
