Daisy Ridley As Spider-Woman: Sure, Why Not
Daisy Ridley already has one iconic franchise role under her belt, so why not try for another? In a recent interview, she revealed that while she hadn’t heard the rumors, she was game. In other words, Daisy Ridley as Spider-Woman could be a real possibility.
We Could See Daisy Ridley as Spider-Woman in a New Spider-Verse
As Deadline reported exclusively last summer, Marvel has hired Olivia Wilde to direct an upcoming movie. What upcoming movie? Shhh, it’s a secret. Wilde, however, hinted as to what it might be in a retweet of the article.

Hmm, let’s see if I can do this math. Spider emoji plus a female character? I’d say it’s pretty likely that Wilde will be directing a Spider-Woman movie. Or maybe a Spider-Girl movie. Do they have one of those? I know through writing the history of Batgirl that there are lot of extraneous Bat-characters, after all. (I’m now being told that there is a Spider-Girl, but Spider-Woman is a better bet.)
Anyway. Katie Silberman, the Booksmart scribe, will be writing the film. It’s unclear when production could begin, though, as Wilde and Silberman are expected to make another movie first. And, of course, Wilde is currently working on the Flossy Pugh-starrer Don’t Worry Darling, which is in post-production.
Okay, Sure, But How Does Daisy Ridley Fit into This?
As author Sariah Wilson said in a Twitter thread, she’s recently spoken with Daisy Ridley.
What so many of you have been waiting for: I asked Daisy Ridley I'd she'd heard the Spider-Woman rumors. She said no and asked what they were. I explained it to her and she said, "OMG, I would love to play Spider-Woman. But is it more of like an extended Spiderverse thing?"

Wilson told Ridley that it would likely be “a new Marvel universe,” and asked her if she’d be interested in joining another franchise. After all, those franchises can be demanding. However, Ridley seemed excited at the prospect, telling Wilson, “Oh, yeah, for sure!”
In addition, Ridley also likes the idea of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wilson reports that Ridley described herself as a fan of both Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and WandaVision. So while Ridley was apparently unaware of the news of a Spider-Woman movie, she would love to play the title role. Ridley also said in a 2019 interview that she wanted to work with Wilde, so look at that: kismet. Spider-fate.
Ridley’s next film, Chaos Walking, will be out on March 5.
