Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Sweeps Box Office Theaters
The movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had an important start at the box office, billing more than 51.8 million dollars this Friday. These figures would be related to 4313 establishments where Sony showed the sequel to Miles Morales’ Spider-Man.
These numbers indicate earnings of between $113.5 million to $120 million. Sony initially stated that they expected to start with the higher figure indicated. However, in the end, they decided to be conservative and stipulated that this start could be the minimum value of the range.
If these estimates are met, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would be the third best-performing animated film at the box office. In addition, with those numbers, it is likely to have high scores on other platforms and aspects, such as positive reviews from experts and users globally.
So far this year, the figures obtained on Friday make the film’s start the best in the year 2023 so far. This would include 17.4 million in Thursday previews, almost on par with The Incredibles movie sequel. Another detail to note is that most of the movie’s viewers were between the ages of 18 and 34.

The performance of Across the Spider-verse far surpassed its prequel in the box office. Miles Morales’ first Spider-Man movie grossed $35.6 million in the United States and $384.2 million worldwide. If the figures mentioned above are given, we would be saying that in just 1 weekend, the second part of this franchise would already have a third of what its predecessor did in 2018.
Both films had producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. As for the voices, we have actors Shameik Moore, who gives life to Morales and Hailee Steinfeld. This talented actress plays two characters, Gwen Stacy and Spider-Woman.
With Sony’s projected grosses, Spider-Man would have the top-grossing spot this week with over $110 million. Disney’s real-life version of The Little Mermaid would be in second place, projecting about $40 million from 4,320 theaters. Last would be The Boogeyman, which is looking to open on the big screen with $11-$12 million for third place.
The fact that Morales’ film had such a positive impact on the movie market caused the third part to begin its course and even already has a name. The upcoming sequel will be titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Sony has scheduled its release for 2024 if the WGA strike does not delay its production.
For now, Morales’ Spider-Man movie is keeking theaters still full, providing 2:16 minutes of fun and showcasing the arachnid’s biggest villain, The Spot.
