So, if you’ve been sharpening your swords and brushing up on your spells for Elder Scrolls 6, you might want to hit the brakes. The gaming boss of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has dropped a bit of a bombshell. Our long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6 journey is still a good “five plus years away.” Yikes! That’s a fair bit of sand left to pass through the hourglass, right?

Let’s dig a little deeper into this. You’ve probably been eagerly waiting for your next trip into the realm of Tamriel, am I right? Well, it seems we’ll have to stave off that hunger a bit longer. During the recent Microsoft FTC trial, Spencer dished out some inside info on Elder Scrolls 6. But the real head-scratcher was his cautious stance on the game’s planned platforms. Intriguing, huh? Does this mean Elder Scrolls 6 might not grace the current generation of consoles? It’s a thought that either thrills or chills, depending on where you stand!

Now, let’s revisit a curious confusion that’s been circling around – the question of exclusivity for the game. Spencer’s prior deposition led many to believe that the game might take a pass on PlayStation. Well, now he’s said he doesn’t remember making such a statement. Hmm, seems like there’s a bit of a memory fog, Phil!

Casting our minds back to November 2021, we recall Spencer teasing the idea of the sequel being an Xbox exclusive. His words were a bit cryptic, though. He claimed,

“It’s not about punishing any other platform…But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls 6.”

A tantalizingly elusive hint, wouldn’t you agree?

Shifting focus back to the courtroom, Spencer talked about Elder Scrolls 6’s release timeline and the platforms it’s set to launch on. His comments were a tad vague, suggesting uncertainty given how far out the game is. But one thing was clear – it’s still up in the air where exactly Elder Scrolls 6 will make its grand appearance.

Okay, so where does that leave us, dear adventurers? The team behind Elder Scrolls 6 is the same group that’s wrapping up Starfield, set to release this September. With that in mind, it seems the epic journey of the game will likely be “five-plus years away.” Yes, folks, not a misprint, five long years, maybe even more!

Perhaps this revelation isn’t all that shocking. If you recall, Bethseda‘s Pete Hines had hinted way back in 2020 that we wouldn’t hear much about Elder Scrolls 6 for “years from now.” Fast forward to 2021, and the game was still in the design phase. Quite the slow-paced journey, eh?

Based on what we’ve heard from Spencer, we’re looking at 2028 or later for the game’s launch. Interestingly, that’s the same year Microsoft expects to unveil the next generation of consoles. Could this timing be a happy coincidence or a carefully planned strategy?

So, to wrap up our little chat, it seems we’ve got a long road ahead before we can dive into Elder Scrolls 6. But, look on the bright side – that’s five more years to perfect our Skyrim skills. It’s more than enough time!
