One of the biggest events in Awards Season is here, and it’s the release of the Oscar nominations! This winter has been full of competitive awards shows and campaigning, and it’s all coming to an end. After seeing all the Golden Globe winners earlier this month, fans have been making their predictions on who would get the coveted Oscar nominations. Well, it’s time to find out if you were right! Here is a complete list of all of the 2020 Oscar nominations.

The 2020 Oscar Nominations

Best Picture

Ford v Ferrari

The Irishman

Jojo Rabbit

Joker

Little Women

Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

Marriage Story

Parasite

1917

1917 may have won the Golden Globe, but the race for Best Picture is far more competitive. Fans are rallying for a Parasite win, which may have a shot based on all of the steam that it’s been picking up lately. Though, like with last year’s Green Book win, fans may be disappointed. What remains true is that these 2020 Oscar nominations are going to be a fun watch.

Best Actress in a Leading Role

Cynthia Erivo, Harriet

Scarlett Johansson, Marriage Story

Saoirse Ronan, Little Woman

Charlize Theron, Bombshell

Renee Zellweger, Judy

The road for this Oscar has seemed like a tight race between Zellweger and Johansson, and we don’t expect to see a big shock when the winner is announced. As much as Saoirse Ronan deserves all of the praise for her role as Jo March, she’s been nominated for stronger performances this year. Her time will come. This list has also been getting some attention for the lack of Lupita Nyong’o for her outstanding job playing two distinct characters in Us. Awkwafina’s role in The Farewell was also expected to score a nomination after her Golden Globe win, though we’re sad to see her missing.

Best Actor in a Leading Role

Antonio Banderas, Pain and Glory

Leonardo DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

Adam Driver, Marriage Story

Joaquin Pheonix, Joker

Jonathan Pryce, The Two Popes

Like with best actress, we’d be blown away to see anyone other than Driver or Pheonix take it. Though, after Pheonix won the Golden Globe, we think our bets are placed on him. Joker was fueled by his strong performance, and would not be as successful as it is today without his powerhouse performance.

Best Supporting Actress

Kathy Bates, Richard Jewell

Laura Dern, Marriage Story

Scarlett Johansson, Jojo Rabbit

Florence Pugh, Little Women

Margot Robbie, Bombshell

Laura Dern has been sweeping the awards ceremony wins this season, and we expect nothing different here. Though, we’d like to give a shoutout to Florence Pugh for her incredible take on Amy March in Little Women, and for her overall incredible year. Many fans have been expressing their frustration with Jennifer Lopez missing out on a nomination for Hustlers, which has been considered one of the bigger snubs this year.

Best Supporting Actor

Tom Hanks, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Anthony Hopkins, The Two Popes

Al Pacino, The Irishman

Joe Pesci, The Irishman

Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

If this list of nominees makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a time machine, you aren’t the only one. This is an incredibly stacked list, and it’s hard to say who deserves it the most. Based on previous wins this season, Brad Pitt might have the edge.

Best Director

Martin Scorsese, The Irishman

Todd Phillips, Joker

Sam Mendes, 1917

Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

Bong Joon Ho, Parasite

Yes, this 2020 Oscar nominations list is missing something in quite a noticeable way. Whether Greta Gerwig would be nominated this season has been a hot topic in conversations, and we’re sad that she missed out. Todd Phillips earning a nomination was a surprise to many, and his inclusion on this list over Gerwig or Noah Baumbach was one of the bigger frustrations of the night.

Film Editing

Michael McCusker and Andrew Buckland, Ford v Ferrari

Thelma Schoonmaker, The Irishman

Tom Eagles, Jojo Rabbit

Jeff Groth, Joker

Yang Jinmo, Parasite

Ford v Ferrari is a film that is totally transformed by its editing, and we think it has a solid shot in this category.

International Feature Film

Corpus Christi

Honeyland

Les Miserables

Pain and Glory

Parasite

Parasite is the easy winner pick here. Many have been upset with Portrait of a Lady on Fire missing out on a nomination, and have taken to Twitter to express anger. Though it’s important to remember that countries will submit one film for consideration, and Portrait was not submitted.

Original Score

Hildur Guonadottir, Joker

Alexandre Desplat, Little Women

Randy Newman, Marriage Story

Thomas Newman, 1917

John Williams, Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker

Based on previous wins this Awards season, Guonadottir has a pretty big chance at taking it home.

Original Song

“I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away,” Toy Story 4

“I’m Gonna Love Me Again,” Rocketman

“I’m Standing With You,” Breakthrough

“Into the Unknown,” Frozen 2

“Stand Up,” Harriet

Time to insert a pretty popular opinion this season: Rocketman is a far better musical biopic than Bohemian Rhapsody, and has been receiving far fewer nominations. Taron Egerton deserved a Best Actor nomination, so we hope that a win in this category will give the movie a small amount of the love that it deserves.

Production Design

Bob Shaw and Regina Graves, The Irishman

Ra Vincent and Nora Sopkova, Jojo Rabbit

Dennis Gassner and Lee Sandales, 1917

Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

Lee Ha Jun and Cho Won Woo, Parasite

Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood will likely take home this award.

Visual Effects

Avengers: Endgame

The Irishman

The Lion King

1917

Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker

Technical awards can often be tough to predict because it depends on what the voters are looking for. The Irishman may not be seen as a film with massive visual effects, but the de-aging was quite a breakthrough for the effect. However, films like Avengers: Endgame may be a bit more performative, so it’s a tough call.

Adapted Screenplay

Steven Zaillian, The Irishman

Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit

Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, Joker

Greta Gerwig, Little Women

Anthony McCarten, The Two Popes

Little Women has been remade multiple times, but Gerwig’s take on the classic novel breathed fresh air into what could have been a boring, over-told story. Based on her imaginative vision for the film, we think it’s an easy choice for Greta.

Original Screenplay

Rian Johnson, Knives Out

Noah Baumbach, Marriage Story

Sam Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, 1917

Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won, Parasite

Another tough and hard to predict category, but we think that Tarantino might have the edge on this award.

Animated Feature Film

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

I Lost My Body

Klaus

Missing Link

Toy Story 4

Who would have thought that the Animated Feature category would be the strangest this awards season? After the Golden Globes gave the award to Missing Link, coming as a big surprise, we’re even more shocked to see a Frozen 2 snub here. It feels like Toy Story 4 is the one to beat, but honestly, we don’t even know anymore.

Cinematography

Rodrigo Prieto, The Irishman

Lawrence Sher, Joker

Jarin Blaschke, The Lighthouse

Roger Deakins, 1917

Robert Richardson, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

The Lighthouse scoring a nomination was a pleasant surprise for this category. Though, we have our bets placed on Deakins winning for 1917.

Costume Design

Mayes C. Rubeo, Jojo Rabbit

Jacqueline Durran, Little Women

Mark Bridges, Joker

Arianne Phillips, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

Sandy Powell and Christopher Peterson, The Irishman

This is another tough category to make a prediction for. Both Phillips and Durran helped their respective films feel appropriate for their era, and it may be a tough race between the two.

Makeup and Hairstyling

Kazu Hiro, Anne Morgan, and Vivian Baker, Bombshell

Nicki Ledermann and Kay Georgiou, Joker

Jeremy Woodhead, Judy

Paul Gooch, Arjen Tuiten and David White, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Naomi Donne, Tristan Versluis and Rebecca Cole, 1917

Bombshell was taken to a whole new level by the makeup and hair team, and we expect them to take the win.

Sound Editing

Donald Sylvester, Ford v Ferrari

Alan Robert Murray, Joker

Oliver Tarney and Rachael Tate, 1917

Wylie Stateman, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

Matthew Wood and David Acord, Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker

Another technical award that is going to be tough to predict. Though, if Ford v Ferrari is going to take anything home, we expect it to be a technical award.

Sound Mixing

Gary Rydstrom, Tom Johnson and Mark Ulano, Ad Astra

Paul Massey, David Giammarco and Steven A. Morrow, Ford v Ferrari

Tom Ozanich, Dean Zupancic and Tod Maitland, Joker

Mark Taylor and Stuard Wilson, 1917

Michael Minkler, Christian P. Minkler and Mark Ulano, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

I was very pleased to see Ad Astra make the list here. The film held a special place in my heard this past year, and it deserves to be recognized for its incredible effects, including sound mixing.

Animated Short Film

Dcera (Daughter)

Hair Love

Kitbull

Live-Action Short Film
