Before Zack Snyder departed from Warner Bros., he had gathered an impressive ensemble for the 2017 film Justice League. Among the notable additions was J.K. Simmons, known for his role in Spider-Man, portraying Commissioner Jim Gordon. Fans had anticipated seeing Gordon play a significant role in Ben Affleck’s The Batman. During that period, a viral photo of the Spider-Man Actor workout in the gym, showcasing his muscular physique, caught the attention of many. While some speculated that he was bulking up for Snyder’s Justice League (given Snyder’s own dedication to fitness), Simmons has now clarified the reason behind his impressive physique as he discusses the upcoming season 2 of Invincible.

Spider-Man Actor J.K Simmons Workout Photo Goes Viral

“Here’s the thing about getting jacked for Justice League,” The actor commented. “I had done a movie called, ‘I’m Not Here,’. And, coincidentally, written and directed by my wife. I played a character who was emaciated, think of The Machinist, and I had lost a ton of weight, and without being unhealthy I’d lost 35 pounds.”

“So when I went back into the gym with my pal, Aaron Williamson, and just started pounding the protein. Also going crazy at good old Gold’s Gym in Laurel Canyon in the valley. He snapped a few pictures when I was really pumped up and at my strongest during that period. Then I asked if I would be okay if he posted it on Instagram. I didn’t know what Instagram was, I didn’t know anything. This was a few years ago. And I was like, yeah, sure, whatever.”

The Spider-Man actor elaborated further on his workout, stating, “And then three, four months later, out of nowhere, someone reposts it, and suddenly fans bombarded me with texts from 30 friends in a single day. All asking about the picture. The press caught wind of it, and because I was gearing up for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the assumption was, ‘Oh, he’s bulking up for a DC comic role.'”

“But if you think about it, Commissioner Gordon wears a trench coat the whole movie,” Simmons added. “So it really doesn’t matter what his biceps look like, it was just coincidental timing with me trying to reclaim my distant athletic youth and trying to stay fit and give my wife some eye candy.”

Simmons appeared in Joss Whedon’s cut of Justice League. However, he received only a few additional seconds of screen time in Zack Snyder’s version. Warner Bros. released the movie four years later.

Fans anticipated eagerly J.K. Simmons’ involvement in Batgirl, especially given his memorable portrayal of Commissioner Gordon in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However it never happened, as Warner Bros. cancelled the movie.
