James Gunn’s dedication to his craft remains unwavering as he upholds his reputation for meticulous filmmaking. This was again showcased when he offered a glimpse into his methodical process. The director unveled a snapshot on Saturday that showcased the sheer extent of his preparation for the Superman new movie within the revitalized DC Universe. In the image, multiple boxes brimmed with meticulously drawn storyboards underscore Gunn’s commitment to ensuring every frame of his cinematic vision is carefully mapped out before filming commences.

Superman New Movie Director Shows Huge Amount of Storyboards

“This is Superman. Boxes of all my shots on hand drawn index cards,” Gunn commented on his Threads account.

Gunn has emphasized the importance of his storyboards, considering them his film bible. This approach ensures alignment among all involved in the film’s production before filming begins.

“This book of drawings & descriptors becomes my film Bible, which is more important to me than the script,” the director added. “For me writing a script is often just me trying to describe what I see visually, so this is closer to the truth of how I see the story (the film itself is even closer).”

Superman new movie director added, “Every shot in my movies is hand drawn first. That’s at least 2,500 shots or so per my recent films. Many of the shows – about 1/3 – take anywhere from 2 to 10 cards or more – because I’m drawing the movement. So I probably end up with about 3,000 cards.”

Superman: Legacy delves into Superman’s quest to reconcile his Kryptonian lineage with his upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas. He embodies truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human compassion in a world that often overlooks it. The ensemble cast features David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Also, we will have Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer from The Authority.

The DC Universe begins with Creature Commandos, awaiting a release date, followed by SUPERMAN, hitting theaters on July 11, 2025.
