Actor Jonathan Majors was seen arriving at a New York court on Monday morning for his sentencing following his conviction for assaulting his former girlfriend. This legal outcome has significantly impacted Majors’ once-promising career.

Dressed in all black, the actor greeted supporters as he arrived in court. He potentially faces a year of imprisonment, although there is also the possibility of receiving probation. This follows a December verdict by a Manhattan jury, which found him guilty of misdemeanor assault.

Jonathan Majors Faces Sentencing After Assault Conviction Derails Marvel Star’s Career

Both Jonathan Majors’ legal team and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg refrained from commenting on the punishment they will seek from the judge ahead of the hearing.

After being found guilty, Jonathan Majors was promptly released from his contract with Marvel Studios.

Majors was slated to play Kang the Conqueror. In addition, Majors’ role was destined to be a central antagonist in Marvel’s film and television projects shortly.

The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred in March 2023. Here, Jonathan Majors’ ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, alleged that he assaulted her in the back seat of a chauffeured car. She claimed Majors struck her head with his open hand. He also twisted her arm behind her back and applied enough force to fracture her middle finger.

Majors claimed that the altercation stemmed from his ex-girlfriend’s jealousy’. The defendant alleged that she became aggressive after discovering a text message from another woman on his phone. He contended that his actions aimed to retrieve his phone and safely exit the situation with Jabbari.

Ultimately, the jury convicted him of one assault charge and a harassment violation but acquitted him of another assault charge and of aggravated harassment.

Jonathan Majors had initially been scheduled for sentencing in February, but his legal team attempted to have the conviction dismissed. However, a Manhattan judge rejected the motion last week.

Majors had held hopes that his two-week criminal trial would clear his name and revive his standing in Hollywood.

The Actor is Looking for a Second Chance in Hollywood

In a televised interview shortly following his conviction, he expressed his belief in deserving a second chance.

“Anticipating the closure of this chapter, he eagerly awaits the opportunity to refocus his time and energy entirely on his family and his craft,” Majors’ attorneys stated in a recent announcement after their attempt to overturn the conviction was unsuccessful.

However, the 34-year-old actor, originally from California and a graduate of Yale University, still has legal challenges ahead. Just last month, Jabbari initiated a civil lawsuit in Manhattan federal court, alleging assault, battery, defamation, and emotional distress against Majors.

According to her claims, Majors engaged in a pattern of increasing physical and verbal abuse throughout their relationship, which spanned from 2021 to 2023.

Jonathan Majors’ legal team has chosen not to address the allegations directly, stating their intention to file counterclaims against Jabbari.

The actor rose to prominence with his breakthrough role in 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco. He also gained recognition for his performance in the HBO horror series Lovecraft Country, which garnered him an Emmy nomination. Additionally, he portrayed the antagonist in the blockbuster film Creed III, squaring off against fictional boxing champion Adonis Creed.

With Jonathan Majors departure after sentencing, Marvel Studios faces the looming question of whether to recast the role of Kang or pursue a new direction entirely.

This development adds to a series of recent high-profile setbacks for the esteemed superhero factory. Despite its unparalleled success, accumulating over $30 billion worldwide from 33 films, Marvel Studios has encountered challenges in maintaining its momentum.
