Today Jason Momoa posted a photo on his Instagram account that suggests Ben Affleck’s Batman could be in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The expectations surrounding the Aquaman sequel are high, and Momoa raised them even more by posting a picture with Ben Affleck on the film’s set.

Is this a sign that Ben Affleck’s version of Batman will be in the movie? Momoa’s post could hint they are voicing scenes for Aquaman 2. That opens several questions, such as how much will be his participation and what will happen with Michael Keaton’s Batman.

Ben Affleck’s Batman Returns

The photo that Jason Momoa posted includes Ben Affleck with the caption “REUNITED bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j.”

That brings a lot of curiosity about Ben Affleck’s possible involvement in the Aquaman sequel. Considering that Affleck left the role due to problems with Warner during the production of Justice League, it would be strange to see him in a small cameo in this film.

Two factors solidify the possibility of Ben Affleck’s brief appearance. The first one is his presence at Warner’s studio, on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The second one is that according to comments from the studio’s personnel, he would have his own dressing room there at the moment.

Other fans wonder if Ben Affleck will wear the Batsuit this time. Affleck’s cameo could be as billionaire Bruce Wayne, and we may never even see the Dark Knight. Perhaps Batman and Aquaman will fight against Black Manta, the confirmed villain of this sequel.

Even though Warner Pictures haven’t confirmed that Ben Affleck will be in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it seems that Jason Momoa did. It’s still unclear if his post was a surprise to Warner, but it certainly was to fans. Considering that the movie is already in post-production, Affleck’s participation will likely limit to a cameo.

Making way for Michael Keaton

There is a possibility that Ben Affleck’s appearance in Aquaman 2 will serve as an introduction for Michael Keaton’s version. The variation in the chronological order of the upcoming DC films releases supports this theory. Everyone initially assumed that The Flash would come first, opening the doors to Michael Keaton’s character.

The problem is that The Flash movie doesn’t have a confirmed release date due to the controversy around this movie’s star, Ezra Miller. He has been arrested for violent behavior and is being investigated for providing psychotropic substances to minors. For this reason, Affleck’s appearance in Aquaman would pass the baton to Michael Keaton’s Batman.

Ben Affleck’s appearance could possibly introduce Michael Keaton as a Batman from another dimension. DC animated movies have already explored the possibility of multiple versions of Earth. Therefore, Ben Affleck’s Batman could have a cameo introducing Arthur to his other version.

That could also mean we won’t see Batman until a post-credit scene. It would make sense, considering the film was already entirely shot and adding new scenes would be difficult and expensive. However, adding them in a post-credits sequence is pretty feasible.

Could this be the end of Batffleck? The actor played this role in Batman Vs Superman and Justice League, and we certainly wanted him to get his own movie. But this does not seem feasible, considering that Michael Keaton’s Batman would take his place and Batgirl would eventually replace both.

We will have to wait for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to release on March 17, 2023, to know which role Ben Affleck will play in the film, how it connects with Michael Keaton’s version, and what will happen with both characters.
