The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the title of the next Star Wars movie.

Director and producer Jon Favreau recently announced that the new Star Wars film will begin production ahead of schedule. Several trade sources have confirmed that the film targets a June start date. Instead of beginning filming on the series’ fourth season. Apparently, pre-production has been ramping up in preparation for the summer kickoff, although, as with any production, this schedule is subject to change.

The upcoming film will be written and directed by Jon Favreau, co-creator of the original series. In addition, Pedro Pascal will return to voice Din Djarin. He is the protagonist of The Mandalorian, alongside Grogu, his “adopted son” introduced in the series’ first episode.

It is not yet known if Pascal will appear on-screen in The Mandalorian & Grogu, a change from his role from the end of season two. While a fourth season of the series is still in the plans, Disney has yet to announce a premiere date due to production delays.

The return of other cast members, such as Katee Sackhoff, Emily Swallow, Amy Sedaris, Mercedes Varnado. Without Giancarlo Esposito, it remains unconfirmed. Given this, it is reasonable to assume that Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder, the performers behind the Mandalorian helmet, will probably return to the set.

During the April 2023 Star Wars Celebration, the company announced that Dave Filoni would be directing his own film. The latter had recently taken over as Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer. The film, which is expected to weave together the stories of the interconnected universe of the series. This saga includes The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett and the upcoming Skeleton Crew, and aims to unify these narratives, promising a dramatic and hopefully very satisfying conclusion.

What Star Wars Projects Are on the Horizon Apart From The Mandalorian & Grogu?

Just a few days ago, Disney CEO Bob Iger informed shareholders during an earnings call that a fresh lineup of Star Wars films is in the pipeline, with The Mandalorian & Grogu leading the way and a targeted release date in 2026. An early commencement of production puts the film on track to meet this release date. Disney has also unveiled other films set in different timelines — James Mangold’s project exploring the origins of the Jedi and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey-focused movie featuring Daisy Ridley. In addition, Collider recently revealed that Disney+ will premiere the Jedi series, Star Wars: The Acolyte, this summer.

The first three seasons of The Mandalorian are currently available for streaming on Disney+. Keep an eye on ComicYears for more updates on Star Wars content.
