Now, I’m fully aware that EA is involved with the game’s development. Also, I understand how that might deter many players. They don’t have Capcom’s new reputation thanks to the Resident Evil remakes. And, Diablo 4 is more promising for many people.
So, what did we see in the trailer? Let’s discuss just that.

Unreal Engine 5 was sold as a huge step for gaming. And, you can bet I believed them. Everything, from its versatility to graphic quality, seemed fantastic. It painted a bright future for AAA and indie game development.
However, we haven’t seen many releases under Unreal Engine 5. Fortnite implemented the engine and editor recently. Other than that, we haven’t seen the engine in practice.
Thus, Immortals of Aveum might become the first iteration of the engine in practice. And, its system requirements might be the template for future titles.
The gameplay trailer of Immortals of Aveum
Firstly, let’s clarify something. The trailer isn’t only gameplay. However, it does offer an extensive look at the game’s mechanics. You have shooting, blocking, and movement. The combination of all three makes up the main experience.
From the trailer, I got a strong Doom Eternal feel. The combat is fast-paced, with dodging being as important as aiming. Some enemies shoot you, and others prefer melee. Bosses combine movement and shooting for more difficulty.
Lastly, the trailer showcases character loadouts. Your “guns” are spells, represented by eccentric gauntlets. Different spells work in different situations, too. Therefore, it’s up to you to pick a playstyle and adapt.
An interesting twist of the FPS genre when visiting Aveum

What makes this game interesting isn’t its mechanics. Instead, Immortals of Aveum is all about magic and spells. It’s a first-person shooter without any guns. Yet, the spells play into basic weapon archetypes.
You have long-range and close-range magic. Of course, you don’t have a “spell” that shoots pellets, like shotguns. But, the damage and effectiveness of your spells will differ. And, there’s a run-and-gun category as well.
This opens up both offensive and defensive variety. You’ll have to master your aim as much as your movement and timing. Combos and counter-attacks are just some examples.
As such, I’m looking forward to seeing this game’s release.
