Shazam 2 First Cast Photo Released To Avoid Leaks
It’s challenging to be the director of a big-budget superhero movie, but sometimes it’s even harder to keep top secret images and information from leaking to the public (just look at what happened to poor Taika Waititi when leaked photos from the Thor: Love and Thunder set revealed a big cameo). Director David F. Sandberg (Shazam!) quite literally took matters into his own hands by tweeting a photo of the Shazam 2 first cast photo in an effort to avoid leaks. The photo depicts Shazam (Zachary Levi) along with his fellow foster brothers and sisters in their superhero forms (left to right: Adam Brody as Freddy Freeman, Meagan Good as Dara Dudley, Ross Butler as Eugene Choi, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, and DJ Cotrona as Pedro Peña).
Don’t know how long we can keep the new suits from leaking so here’s a pic I took the other day pic.twitter.com/41wStJ6oe2

Eagle-eyed fans will notice that the costumes have gotten upgrades. Gone are the overly cartoony outfits, which have now been replaced with more form-fitting outfits that run on the darker side of the color spectrum. Even the texture of the outfits look more on-brand with the rest of the DCEU, reminding me of Henry Cavill’s Superman suit or Sasha Calle’s Supergirl costume in the upcoming The Flash movie.
Sandberg also recently tweeted a Shazam! Fury of the Gods teaser, which you can watch below:

Given the teaser trailer plus the fact that we know that Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren will be joining the cast, the excitement for Shazam! Fury of the Gods is palpable. Both Liu and Mirren will play daughters of Atlas (Kalypso and Hespera respectively) and will be the main villains in the sequel. Shazam’s powers come from several gods from Greek mythology, namely wisdom from Solomon, strength from Hercules, courage from Achilles, power from Zeus, stamina from Atlas, and speed from Mercury, so knowing that he’ll have to go up against the daughters of the source of his stamina will be interesting.
Sandberg will be the director once again, with Henry Gayden penning the script. Peter Safran will produce through The Safran Company.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will premiere June 2, 2023.
