Peaky Blinders Reportedly Set to Receive Two New Spinoff Series
Peaky Blinders is poised to broaden its universe with not just one, but two upcoming spinoff, according to Bloomberg reports.
The first spinoff unfolds in Boston during the mid-20th century, spanning several decades after the conclusion of the original Peaky Blinders series. Meanwhile, the second spinoff zeroes in on Polly, the matriarch of the Shelby criminal clan, originally portrayed by the late Helen McCrory.
A Different Era Within the Steven Knight Universe
Given McCrory’s passing in 2021 at the age of 52, it’s likely that the Peaky Blinders spinoff will explore a different era in Polly’s life, potentially delving into her character’s youth. The prospect of these two spinoffs promises to add compelling layers to the rich tapestry of Peaky Blinders lore.
As for the spin-off set in Boston, however, details about its narrative structure remain vague. Moreover, the change of era introduces a plethora of intriguing possibilities. James Frecheville played South Boston crime leader Jack Nelson in the sixth season of Peaky Blinders. We can conclude from this that it points to a possible expansion of the Peaky Blinders universe to the United States.
Peaky Blinders, created by British filmmaker Steven Knight, made its debut on BBC One in the UK in September 2013. The series starred Cillian Murphy as Thomas “Tommy” Shelby, the formidable crime boss of the Peaky Blinders gang operating in post-World War I Birmingham. The ensemble cast included Sam Neill, Joe Cole, Helen McCrory, and Annabelle Wallis.
While discussions about a spin-off movie have circulated before, this is a distinct project. According to recent updates from writer Steven Knight to the Radio Times, the spin-off movie is now in its final stages of being written, adding another exciting dimension to the expanding Peaky Blinders universe.

“I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment,” he revealed. “I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, ‘That’s pretty good – but where did it come from?’”
“The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year,” he added.
Earlier this month, Cillian Murphy expressed his openness to the idea of returning for the Peaky Blinders movie. He stated, “I’m totally open to the idea, but I also do think it was a kind of perfect six seasons. It’s sometimes hard to move into the film format. And I do like the ambiguity of the ending. However, I’m always open to a great script, who wouldn’t be?”
While the release dates for the upcoming spinoff shows remain shrouded in mystery, it seems that the spinoff film could hit our screens sooner rather than later.
