James Gunn is the co-CEO of DC Studios and director of Superman. Now, to commemorate 86 years of Man of Steel, he is sharing additional behind-the-scenes content from the film with fans. On his personal Threads account, the director uploaded a photo. In it, James Gunn appears alongside Superman movie stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, each engrossed in different Superman comics. Brosnahan will play Lois Lane and is immersed in All-Star Superman. Meanwhile David Corenswet, who plays Clark Kent, is delving into Action Comics #114. Finally, James Gunn himself is engrossed in Superman #1. Gunn has previously revealed that these comics will serve as inspiration for his interpretation of Kal-El in the DCU.

The film also features an all-star cast that includes Milly Alcock as Supergirl. We’ll also have Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern and Nicholas Hoult as central antagonist Lex Luthor, among others. In unveiling the lineup for Chapter 1 of the DCU, titled “Gods and Monsters.” In addition, Gunn emphasized that Superman (formerly Superman: Legacy) would serve as the true start of the new DC Universe. Currently, the only characters confirmed for the transition from the DCEU to the new DCU are John Cena’s Peacemaker. On the other hand Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller and Xolo Mariueńa’s Blue Beetle.

What Other Details has James Gunn Revealed About the Superman 2025 Movie?

The James Gunn movie Superman is currently in production, with new cast members being unveiled as filming advances. The latest announcements include the addition of Pruitt Taylor Vince as Superman’s father, Jonathan Kent. In addition, Neva Howell will play Clark Kent’s mother, Martha. In addition, Wendell Pierce will step into the role of Perry White, following in the footsteps of Laurence Fishburne as the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet newspaper.

One of the most exciting aspects of Superman is that it will not repeat the Man of Steel’s origin story. Audiences have witnessed Clark Kent’s journey to becoming Superman on numerous occasions. This has led Gunn to opt for a more weathered Kal-El. He has also emphasized that Superman inhabits a world filled with other heroes. However, none of these colleagues will overshadow the core of the story, which revolves around Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. Gunn wants to avoid the past mistakes of the DCEU. This way they will introduce many heroes at once. Furthermore, Gunn intends to avoid this by building a vibrant world full of other engaging characters without losing sight of what really matters.

The New DC with James Gunn

With all the details we’ve gathered about 2025’s Superman, it’s challenging not to feel optimistic about the future of DC. Taking the reins of a franchise plagued by evident issues, from struggling to develop a coherent cinematic universe to adhering to a consistent plan, Gunn faces a daunting task. However, he seems more than capable of rising to the occasion. Additionally, DC faced challenges as they attempted to build their world amidst the MCU’s peak dominance. Now, with Marvel’s Multiverse Saga potentially losing some of its luster in public opinion, DC has an opportunity to seize the moment and demonstrate that they can achieve similar success to what the MCU accomplished with the Infinity Saga.

Superman is slated for release in theaters on July 11, 2025, serving as the catalyst for a fresh era of DC narratives. Keep an eye on Collider for additional updates.
