Rumors have circulated suggesting that David Corenswet’s fresh portrayal of the Man of Steel will encounter with Lex Luthor, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult. However, Superman will also fight a formidable physical villain in James Gunn’s Superman. A recent rumor has emerged, potentially shedding light on the origins of these speculations.

It seems likely that James Gunn will keep this plot aspect under wraps in the film’s pre-release marketing.

SUPERMAN Will Feature a New Villain Character, According to Reports

According to reports from @canwegetsometoast, the iconic Superman will find himself in a showdown with a villain clone or doppelgänger in James Gunn’s Superman reboot. However, this duplicate will not be named Bizarro. Instead, the film could feature a variation of Ultraman. Lex Luthor created this villain using Superman’s DNA to create an identical replica of the superhero.

This iteration of Ultraman seems to be largely inspired by the Silver Age version of Earth-Three. Here several comic book characters have represented over the years.

Superman has already encountered duplicates in the past. In addition, he faced the villain monstrous clone as Doomsday in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, we can expect a fresh and innovative take on this classic conflict with James Gunn at the helm.

Filming continues in Svalbard, Norway, and while we’ve only caught glimpses of Maria Gabrielle de Faria as The Engineer in set photos, it’s likely that more images will surface online shortly.

Superman will also feature Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

James Gunn has recently added Sara Sampaio to the cast to play Eve Teschmacher, Lex’s assistant and romantic interest. At the same time, the director has also cast Skyler Gisondo for the role of Jimmy Olsen. There are also rumors that Milly Alcock will play Supergirl before her solo movie, The Woman of Tomorrow, but there is no official confirmation yet.

The specific roles of these additional superheroes in the storyline are still uncertain. However, Gunn has hinted at exploring Superman’s duality as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel in the movie, implying that these characters could serve as his allies or “super friends.” Whether they will form an official team or have individual roles in the narrative are still disclosed.

James Gunn Instagram Post Revealing the Official Logo

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” Gunn stated in an Instagram post. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN,” he added. “Making our way to you July 2025.”
