Elliot Page From Umbrella Academy Shares Message On Social Media Announcing He Is A Transgender Person
Despite the current status of the world in a global Pandemic, there are still some bright moments of light and hope. One such moment comes from a fan-favorite star of comic book properties like X-Men and The Umbrella Academy and an Oscar-nominated actor. Taking to social media, the message reveals that Elliot Page is a transgender person, along with some hopeful and poignant words about his journey. Formerly known as Ellen, Elliot Page has long been an advocate for LGBT+ people, and it’s always been personal. With today’s message, Page continues to advocate by sharing their journey to living as one’s true self.
News That Elliot Page Is A Transgender Person Can Be Encouraging To Others
Geek culture is a complicated one. Previously considered to be a sub-section of society, its where those that never felt like they fit in went to find community and acceptance. And this was also true of the LGBTQ community, many of whom are geeks themselves, for similar reasons. Despite that, LQBTQ representation in geek culture has been difficult and slow going. Recently, Star Trek: Discovery featured the first non-binary and transgender characters for the franchise. So the recent announcement, of a star associated with such fandoms like X-Men and The Umbrella Academy to own his story and come to a place where they can be happy, is a big deal. Especially considering that the message Page shared on his social media was quite an uplifting one. Part of the message is below, the full message is on his Instagram post.
“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”
For Those Unaware Of Elliot Page’s Credentials

Elliot Page is not just part of comic book fandom but played many roles with impact throughout their career. Page’s credentials include the indie hit, Juno that put him on the map and even garnered an Oscar nomination. He then later went on to be part of massive commercial successes like Christoper Nolan’s Inception. Page has had a great career thus far, and I for one can’t wait to see more of him in future projects. The caliber of actor that Page is, can be very inspiring for others still struggling with their sense of identity and self. Something that GLAAD Director of Transgender Media mentions in their message following Page’s announcement.
“Elliot Page has given us fantastic characters on-screen and has been an outspoken advocate for all LGBTQ people. He will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people. All transgender people deserve the chance to be themselves and to be accepted for who we are. We celebrate the remarkable Elliot Page today.”

Page is not the only recent member of the comic book fandom to announce that he is transgender or non-binary. Comic book creator and writer extraordinaire, Grant Morrison, recently announced that they are gender fluid. Such mainstream and influential creators and performers sharing their stories in public can only contribute to the empowerment of the LGBTQ community and inspire other trans and non-binary people all over the world.

Since genre stories often focuses on characters finding acceptance for who they are in a group, we should all strive to make our respective fandoms as welcoming.
