Did you find that there just weren’t enough dalmatians in Cruella, the most recent Disney film to dive into the backstory of one of our favorite baddies? Well, if you were hoping to see, I don’t know, 101 of them, your chance might be coming up soon. Disney has announced that a Cruella sequel is already on its way, and we already have some high hopes.

Disney To Release A Cruella Sequel After Success Of First Film

Cruella, the 2021 film starring Emma Stone in the titular role, released on Disney+ to plenty of success last month. In addition to its high streaming numbers on the competitive platform, it also managed to sweep over $50 million (and counting) at the traditional box office. So, we aren’t too surprised to hear news of a sequel so soon after its release.

The Disney sequel will bring back director Craig Gillespie, as well as screenwriter Tony McNamara. Emma Stone will also be reprising her role as the no-longer-dog-hating villainess.

Some of the criticism towards Cruella complained that, quite simply, she wasn’t bad enough. The character has become known for her tough attitude in the original Disney film, as well as 101 Dalmatians, the 1996 live-action film starring Glenn Close in the lead role. Though, in Cruella, nothing Stone’s character does is unjustified or seems inherently evil. Could this Disney sequel to Cruella finally steer her towards the dark side? I guess we’ll find out.
