With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original saga to a close in the films, there are still plenty of original trilogy-era stories out there. In advance of the final film, Marvel’s Star Wars series all came to an end. Yet, they kick off with new volumes of new in-canon stories following the events of the original films. In the preview for Marvel’s Darth Vader #1, out in February 2020, we see the Dark Lord begin the crisis of conscience that brought the Chosen One back to the light. For the first time since Attack of the Clones, the once-and-future Anakin Skywalker returned to Tattooine and the moisture farm of the Lars family.

The following seven-page preview of Marvel’s Darth Vader #1 highlights how this might be the most interesting Star Wars comic of 2020. Accompanied only by Death Troopers and a droid, Vader walks through the charred remains of the Lars homestead. While there, his mind flashes back to his life as Anakin on Tattooine. It was the planet where his mother lived and died. It was the planet where he met the love of his life. It is also the planet where someone hid his son from him in plain sight.

One of the more interesting revelations in the preview fills a plot hole bugging fans for a long time. While supposedly in hiding from the Empire, Owen and Beru Lars didn’t even change Luke’s name. The droid mentions that Luke Skywalker lived there, but adds that few, if any, “official” records exist. Considering that Tattooine is ruled by the Hutts and not the Empire, it makes sense that word of some farmboy with the same last name as a long-dead Jedi slipped past their notice.

Marvel Probably Isn’t Bringing Back the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man

There are a lot of Spider-Men out there, as 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse capitalized on. However, some felt the conspicuous absence of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man in a multiverse where all Spider-Men are real. One of the first modern comic book adaptations to be almost universally beloved, the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies hold a […]

If there’s one thing gamers respond well to, it’s a meaningful delay. No sarcasm here at all: if a game gets delayed to make the game better, fans are cool with it. JRR Tolkien is often credited as the father of modern fantasy…because he is. There’s not a single fantasy book today that owes something The Lord of the Rings.
