The sequel’s release to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been delayed. The superhero movie was going to arrive next October 7, 2022. Today, April 21, we received the bad news that Sony decided to delay it for June 2, 2023, so we will have to wait until next year to enjoy this Spidey adventure. In the meantime, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part 2 will be released on March 29, 2024. The first part, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, introduced us to different versions of Spidey and proved to be a big hit with audiences and critics alike.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Before Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans of the hero had another multiversal adventure with Into the Spider-Verse. This animated film won several awards for best-animated film in the year of its release. The film took four years to create and featured star appearances such as Hailee Steinfeld voicing Gwen Stacy, Zoë Kravitz as Mary Jane Watson, and Nicolas Cage as Peter Parker / Spider-Man Noir, among many others.

The studio announced the green light for the sequel shortly after. We had to wait a long time to know its name and get a first look. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will bring back Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen and new members. Although it was supposed to arrive in late 2022, it has just been announced that this will not be the case.

Across the Spider-Verse continues in a short period after the events during the award-winning Into the Spider-Verse, considered by many fans as one of the best entries of the wall-crawler in cinema. We know that Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy will be reunited sooner rather than later in the film, while Spider-Man 2099, AKA Miguel O’Hara, will have a significant role in the plot.

Across the Spider-Verse Movie, Delayed

The official Twitter page of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was responsible for sharing the news that the release is delayed. The long-awaited sequel drops its October 2022 release date to June 2, 2023. Fans will now have to wait for a little over a year to see the new adventures of Miles Morales.

As originally announced, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be split into two parts. The second one was originally planned for 2023 but was also affected by the delay of its predecessor. Its new date was set for March 29, 2024.

More news from Sony? We have to talk about a movie linked to the Spider-Man Character Universe. More precisely Madame Web, in theaters worldwide next July 7, 2023. Dakota Johnson has already signed a contract to give life to this dark character who never had her graphic novel. She will be Julia Carpenter, the successor of the original Madame Web.

Sony’s news regarding these films raises suspicions about other projects from the production company. Like another film that is part of the Spider-Man Character Universe, Kraven The Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, which follows the story of a hunter who becomes one of Spidey’s quintessential villains. The film will hit theaters on June 13, 2023.

These delays are not to the liking of Spider-Man fans, especially the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, awaited by millions of fans of the friendly wall-crawler. The first entry that inaugurated the franchise in full swing with commercial success and even an Oscar award for the best-animated film. We’ll have to wait!
