Edgar Wright has become known for his exciting stylistic choices in films that leave an impression. From the incredible sound design in Baby Driver to the niche transmedia storytelling in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, we have been watching his career with more than a little bit of interest. So, when a mysterious concept was announced and set to star Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy, our interest was immediately piqued. In fact, it was even enough to land on our most anticipated movies of 2021 podcast picks! Though, for a while, we didn’t have much information to go off of. The trailer for Last Night in Soho has finally dropped, and it isn’t what we expected. Let’s take a look at why we’re thrilled about it.

Take a look at the Last Night in Soho trailer below to see what we’re talking about!

What Is Going On In The Last Night in Soho Trailer?

As seen in the trailer, the film will follow Thomasin McKenzie’s Eloise as she moves to London in pursuit of a career in fashion. As many travelers can attest, moving to a new city can be lonely. Fortunately for Eloise, she isn’t alone for long. She soon finds herself being consumed in her embodiment of Anya Taylor-Joy’s Sandy, a sexy and talented performer of sorts. What starts as 60s glamour turns to clear horror as the once separated identities become tangled.

The trailer thrives through the enthralling performances of MacKenzie and Taylor-Joy. We are watching as the latter comes off of a career-best with her portrayal of Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit, for which she won a Golden Globe and a SAG award. Meanwhile, Thomasin McKenzie has been on our radar since her honest, and intimate role as Tom in 2018’s Leave No Trace and her silly yet devastating take on Elsa Korr in 2019’s Jojo Rabbit.

Not only is the film led by awe-inspiring players on screen, but our faith in Wright’s behind-the-scenes work is impressive. The aesthetics that he seems to be going for can only remind us of Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2016 psychological horror, The Neon Demon. The thrilling genre is sure to come alive in ways that we haven’t grown used to, and we’re more than ready to try out this experimental flick.

Readers, we want to hear what you think after watching the trailer for Last Night in Soho. Are you ready to be spooked, or do you want to stare at those beautiful visuals for hours?

Last Night in Soho will hit theaters on October 22nd, 2021.
