It’s barely not-Halloween, which means it’s time to start hearing about this year’s round of Holiday movies! First among them is a new holiday movie from Jumangi director Jake Kasdan. Kasdan is reuniting with Dwayne Johnson, a miracle of the season if ever there was one. Almost nothing is known about this mysterious film, but that’s not going to stop us from grabbing every morsel of information and speculating wildly.

What Do We Know About Jake Kasdan’s New Movie?

So far, we know a tentative title: Red One. Amazon describes it as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre,” a description so vague it rivals the work of Algerian-French philosopher Jacques Derrida for most words with least meaning.

Red One is an action-adventure comedy that will premiere during the 2023 holiday season. Dwayne Johnson is set to star, but his role hasn’t been confirmed. There’s a chance he’ll play Santa. If that’s true, that means Dwayne Johnson will have played Santa and The Tooth Fairy, two out of five of the main characters in DreamWorks’ Rise of the Guardians.

A Holiday Movie From Jumangi Director and Fast and Furious Writer

The story behind Red One was developed by Hiram Garcia of Seven bucks Productions. Adapting that story into a script is Chris Morgan, who has worked with Dwayne Johnson on 4 of the most recent Fast and Furious movies. It’s a Santa movie with motor oil in its veins. If that’s not enough, Red One as a title has such cursed Santa-with-a-knife energy that you kind of have to give this movie a chance.

My guess is it’s going to be a day-in-the-life story where someone gets to see how The Red One really gets all his gift giving done. Santa will rip his coat off at least once. A sleigh will likely crash, and the mostly-unharmed survivors will exchange tired quips. Vin Diesel might appear and give a monologue about family.

Or it’s going to be a Blair Witch-style found footage documentary about the mysterious Northern cryptid: the Red One.

Red One is a holiday movie from the director of Jumangi with a story and star from the Fast and Furious franchise. What do you think it could be about? Tell us in the comments! If you want to hear more about movies that already exist, check out the ComicYears 2021 box office podcast!
