‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Filming Postponed; Cast Given Chance To “Explore Other Ventures”
Filming for Euphoria season 3 has been postponed as Sam Levinson, the drama’s creator, requires additional time to refine the scripts for the highly anticipated new season. Initially slated to commence production soon, the filming schedule has been adjusted to accommodate Levinson’s scripting process. Additionally, the cast of the show, which features Zendaya from Dune: Part Two and Sydney Sweeney from Anyone but You, has been given the freedom to pursue other opportunities during this period.
HBO Statements on Euphoria Season 3
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” HBO commented about the series. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
Despite the delay in production, the cast remains under contract, and HBO remains committed to airing Euphoria season three at some point in 2025.
In a September 2023 cover story interview with Elle featuring Zendaya, Levinson hinted at the upcoming season as a “film noir,” suggesting that Rue’s character will delve into the concept of individual principles in a corrupt world.
Euphoria, HBO’s highly acclaimed series, remains one of the network’s top-rated shows. Its last season aired in February 2022. However, the production faced a setback with the tragic death of star Angus Cloud in July 2023 at 25. Despite this loss, the show was renewed for a third season midway through its second season airing.
Levinson was in the process of writing the third season before the writers’ strike on May 2, 2023. Last year, actor Angus Cloud passed away tragically. At this time, a source informed THR that Cloud had a central storyline in the season two finale. However, with the season put on hold due to the work stoppage, it remained uncertain what the creator had in store for the series.
Last year, Levinson also devoted time to launching his short-lived provocative music industry drama, The Idol.
Actress Sydney Sweeney Comments About the Series

During an event last week, Sweeney responded to rumors about Euphoria season 3 with caution. Taking a sip of water, she remarked, “Honestly, is like talking about Marvel. I said one thing, and it spread everywhere.” When asked if she had seen any scripts for season three, she responded ambiguously, “Maybe. I don’t know.” This follows her earlier statement to MTV, where she hinted at starting filming for Euphoria soon, saying, “I go into Euphoria next.”
Sweeney’s remarks followed a viral stand-up clip from her co-star Nika King, known for her role as Zendaya’s onscreen mother, where she joked about the extended gap between seasons two and three. In the clip, King humorously expressed uncertainty about the release date of season three, stating, “Season three is coming out — I don’t fucking know. Don’t ask me, I don’t know. … ‘We need season three!’ Bitch, I need season three! I haven’t paid my rent in six months.” This clip garnered attention after King’s performance at the Hollywood Improv earlier this year.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney clarified that her stand-up joke about Euphoria was meant to be lighthearted. She emphasized her background in comedy and highlighted her excitement about several upcoming film projects releasing this year. Sweeney expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work in both drama and comedy genres. Also, she reaffirmed her commitment to crafting a diverse career in the entertainment industry.
In November 2023, HBO chief Casey Bloys disclosed that Euphoria was one of the HBO series affected by the dual Hollywood strikes, resulting in its postponement to 2025.
