This movie has been a guiding light for many filmmakers, and Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of the iconic superhero continues to set the standard for future actors to aspire to. Now Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story seeks to highlight the impact and influence of this work on the industry.

In 1995, Reeve suffered a devastating injury, leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down after a horse-riding accident. Despite his paralysis, he persisted in his acting career and became a prominent advocate for various causes until his passing in 2004.

Warner Bros.’ presentation at CinemaCon yesterday offered minimal updates on the DCU. However, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran took the stage to emphasize the significance of the Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story documentary.

As a result, audiences can look forward to its theatrical release scheduled for this coming September!

DC Studios’ inaugural film will delve into Reeve’s life. It will also feature filmmaker Richard Donner, collaborators and the actor’s children.

A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery expressed immense pride in collaborating with Christopher Reeve’s family. In addition, the creators of Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story intend to share their personal journey with audiences around the world.

“WBD DC Studios, Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, HBO, CNN Films and Max are grateful for the opportunity. They also want to honor one of our company’s most cherished creative partners and celebrate Christopher’s rich life and career.”

Last year, Alexandra Reeve Givens, Reeve’s daughter, hinted at what Superman fans can expect, following the studio’s $15 million acquisition of the film at the Sundance Film Festival 2024.

“One of the joys is that they’ve uncovered a lot of archival footage,” she stated. “So there’s the outtakes from the original audition for Superman, interviews with Dad from the ’70s and ’80s, when we were still little kids.”

“Seeing him at the height of fame and even old home movies that we hadn’t spent a lot of time on. Suddenly we’re discovering these moments and seeing them on the big screen. All of that woven together has been really beautiful and powerful,” commented Alexandra.

In Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, previously unreleased home videos and extraordinary personal archives shed light on Christopher Reeve’s career. He has also gone from obscure actor to legendary film icon, playing the screen’s ultimate superhero. His profound understanding of heroism emerged as an activist after a devastating accident that left him quadriplegic and dependent on a ventilator.
