Netflix wraps up their “Geek Week” this weekend, after teasing all of the upcoming video game adaptations heading to the streaming network in the near future. And the powers that be have finally given fans a glimpse of the highly anticipated second season of The Witcher. A teaser for season 2 of The Witcher is finally here. And it focuses entirely on the character of Ciri. No Geralt, Yennefer, or even Jaskier to be found here. Instead this teaser introduces us to a slightly more grown up version of Princess Cirilla as she begins her training at the Witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen.

Season 2 of The Witcher Renews Focus On Ciri

The teaser has little dialogue beyond Ciri saying “I need to understand.” And she’s not alone. There is a lot of mystery still surrounding Ciri’s character. Fans of the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, or the Witcher video games already know a lot of Ciri’s story. But in the show, there is still much to be revealed. Ciri has a long way to go in order to understand her own nature, and her importance to the world. Of course we know that Ciri is a child of prophecy, but she still has much to learn about what that means for her future and her identity.

The teaser for season 2 of The Witcher moves at a lightning pace, so it can be difficult to pinpoint any specific image. There is Ciri in the forest (again) and a snippet of her training with the sword. In season 2 of The Witcher, Geralt will be taking Ciri back to the closest place he has to call home: Kaer Morhen. Here is where young Witchers train and undergo the Trial of the Grasses that grants them their supernatural abilities. We will also be meeting some other Witchers in season 2 like Geralt’s mentor Vesemir, and his rival Lambert. Unfortunately none of those new faces appear in the season 2 teaser from Netflix.

A Familiar Dagger and The Black Knight Haunt Ciri

There are two stand-out images from the teaser that feel important. One is the image of the dagger on a pedestal. This is highly reminiscent of the dagger that Ciri’s character wields in the Witcher 3 video game. And then there is of course the image of the black knight, who has been hunting Ciri since last season. In the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, Ciri often has vivid nightmares about the black knight and has sworn vengeance upon him. In fact, this whole teaser feels a bit like a dream or vision that Ciri is having (or that Geralt is having about Ciri). This teaser might actually be teasing more visions for Ciri as she struggles to figure out her own destiny.

Season 2 of The Witcher just wrapped production back in April after shutting down during the pandemic. We still don’t know yet when the next season will air on Netflix, but we will certainly be keeping you up to date as we learn more.

Although the season 2 teaser for The Witcher on Netflix doesn’t reveal much, it is still an exciting first glimpse at the direction the show is heading.
