While The Mandalorian is revving up for a huge season 2 finale, the Disney Plus Star Wars machine continues to chug along. Fans will rejoice at the news of the Disney Plus Cassian Andor series shooting beginning officially in London. The star of the series himself confirmed the news in a talk show interview. This means that after all the rumors, confirmations, walking back and changes, the Rogue One prequel series is officially starting and fans should see it sometime soon.

Cassian Andor became pretty famous after his appearance in the prequel to Star Wars: A New Hope, Rogue One. Hailed by many as the best Star Wars movie out there, Rogue One’s story was one that ended mere moments before the start of the first-ever Star Wars movie. It introduced characters whom fans loved, but all of whom met an untimely end in their sacrifice to save the galaxy. The story was a heist movie where a ragtag group of Rebels stole the plans for the original Death Star, the destruction of which was the premise of A New Hope.

Rogue One did well because it grounded itself with a realistic and lived in ensemble of characters that fans became invested in during the story. One of those characters was Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. Initially looking like a copy/paste template of Han Solo, Andor became so much more. The war-weary soldier had moments in Rogue One that hinted at his tragic and violent past, driven home by a third-act monologue that was truly iconic. The new Disney Plus Cassian Andor series looks to explore those origins of the character.

Diego Luna Confirmed The Series Shooting On Jimmy Kimmel

During a virtual interview on Jimmy Kimmell Live!, Luna confirmed that the Disney Plus Cassian Andor series is shooting in London. He mentions that he’s there and that it’s finally happening. This is great news for fans of Star Wars and the new branch of live-action shows on Disney Plus. This is because so far, the confirmations and reports on these shows have been very back and forth. After the success of The Mandalorian, a new Obi-Wan series was next, only for things to seemingly taper off. There’s also various news of Ahsoka Tano and Boba Fett spin-offs, but nothing concrete has really materialized.

With the Cassian Andor series finally in actual production with cameras rolling, it’s quite possibly the hard confirmation we have of another Star Wars live action show coming. Which is reason enough to celebrate. No word yet on when the Disney Plus series will premiere on the streaming network.
