Boba Fett fans can rejoice, because a new rumor suggests he will play a major role in The Mandalorian season 3. With much of production in Hollywood and elsewhere shut down, we seem to be getting a lot of news about The Mandalorian. Disney recently confirmed that season 2 of The Mandalorian will not be delayed due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. This means that Din Djarin and Baby Yoda will return to our Disney+ screens in fall (or maybe even earlier). We know that Rosario Dawson will play a role in the second season, possibly portraying Ahsoka Tano in live-action for the first time.
We also learned this week that Temuera Morrison is returning to the Star Wars universe. Now, as we noted, Morrison could play a clone soldier that survived into the time of the series. (The Mandalorian takes place five years after Return of the Jedi.) However, he also could play Boba Fett, who we learned in the prequel trilogy is the unaltered clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett.
Well, a new report lends credence to the rumors that Morrison will play the bounty hunter last seen being swallowed up (like a punk) by the sarlacc that lives in the Pit of Karkoon. In fact, this report suggests that Boba Fett will play a major role in season 3 of The Mandalorian.
How Can We Know Boba Fett Will Play a Big Role In The Mandalorian Season 3?

With season 2 of the hit series not even finished yet, it seems that any successive season info would be scarce at best. Normally these skeptics would be correct. Yet, The Mandalorian was a genuine pop culture phenomenon. The deep pockets at Disney+ mean that this series will likely continue on until Jon Favreau gets tired of it. Just last month, we reported that pre-production on the third season is already underway. With the shutdown, writers and storytellers can work remotely on concepts, breaking stories, and scripts from home.
Temuera Morrison already involved in season 2, meaning his scenes are already shot. It’s not unbelievable that the storytellers want to continue using Boba Fett as an antagonist in The Mandalorian season 3. We know that Din Djarin is going to have problems with Moff Gideon and the mysterious Darksaber. Yet, if Dawson is really Ahsoka Tano, she’ll likely make short work of any lightsaber-wielding baddie who can’t use the Force. If Giancarlo Esposito’s character ends up dispatched, Boba Fett can step in as a chief antagonist.
From The Direct, who broke the story:
“According to a reliable source with industry knowledge, fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett will return for The Mandalorian’s third season, currently in early development. Temuera Morrison will reprise the role, and the infamous captor of Han Solo is said to play a much larger part in Season 3 of Din Djarin’s story than he will in the second season.”
So, it sounds like Morrison’s role as Boba Fett is small. The character appeared briefly in the episode “The Gunslinger.” He’s not seen, but the sound made as the shadowy figure approaches Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) sounds like Fett. Though, with the exception of Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog, and Gina Carano, most characters in The Mandalorian appear for a single episode. Yet, if Morrison’s Boba Fett gets a bigger role in The Mandalorian season 3, he could become a regular foil for our heroes.
Ultimately, this is a chance for Favreau, Morrison, and the rest of the storytellers to redeem the character of Boba Fett. He is the Star Wars character most famous for looking cool but not doing much of anything. His run on The Mandalorian could be the action-packed ass-kick-a-thon Boba Fett fans have waited for since he first appeared in a cartoon during the infamous Star Wars holiday special.
Perhaps we should take this report with a grain of salt, but we hope The Direct got this one right. Morrison is a great actor and a veteran Boba Fett might make the perfect antagonist for the Mandalorian.
