Who Is Druig? A Look At Marvel Comics’ Eternals Characters
When the Eternals movie was first announced at SDCC 2019 for the MCU’s Phase 4, people had questions. Who the heck were these Eternals? How will they fit into the MCU? Well, now we know (kind of). Marvel Studios released the final Eternals trailer and fans got a clearer picture of what these beautiful superheroes will be doing in the MCU. We wrote about the history of the Eternals, but basically, they’re the creation of divine beings, the Celestials (Ego, Peter Quill’s father, was one of these beings). The Celestials created early humanoids as a way to kickstart human evolution, thus creating the Eternals (the gorgeous, good-hearted ones) and the Deviants (the ugly, evil ones). The former was tasked with protecting Earth (and later, humankind) from the wicked plans of the Deviants. While we’ve gotten a glimpse of these new characters, I’m going to take a closer look at each of the 10 new superheroes. In this first post of the series, I’m asking: who is Druig?
Who Is Druig And What Are His Powers?
Druig, who is played by Barry Keoghan, is the outcast of this group of Eternals due to his disagreement with how the others interact with humankind. Often it’s not clear whether he’s a friend or a foe. Like many other Eternals, he’s endowed with superstrength, telekinesis, and telepathy. He can manipulate matter and can blast cosmic energy from his hands or eyes, in the form of light, heat, or a powerful force. Aloof and powerful, he enjoys torturing people, which foreshadows his betrayal of his fellow Eternals in the future.
A History of Druig

Druig was one of the original Eternals created by Jack Kirby in the 1970s. He’s cousins with Ikaris and hates that his cousin seems to be considered the “leader” of the Eternals rather than him. Ultimately, Druig is power-obsessed, which leads him to torture Ikaris and betray the Eternals by siding with the enemies. Throughout the comics, he often used his ability to manipulate people’s minds and memories to his advantage, using it to gain more power. In one version of the Eternals, Druig is the Prime Minister of a fictional USSR country and goes by the name Ivan Druig, but in modern times, he’s a KBG agent in Russia.
Eternals premieres November 5, 2021 in theaters everywhere (for now).
