A second trailer for She-Hulk showed Doctor Strange’s Wong in a scene that shocked many viewers at the San Diego Comic-Con. In this trailer, we can see Wong, Doctor Strange’s sidekick, talking to the protagonist. He reminds her that they must answer to a higher power and that the universe is in danger.
It may seem strange; however, Wong and She-Hulk have one thing in common, the villain Abomination. Wong and Abomination faced each other in the movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Wong won. If we carefully observe the end of that scene, we can see Abomination and Wong leaving through a portal to the same place where they keep Abomination in She-Hulk.

Why Doctor Strange’s Wong is in the new She-Hulk Trailer
Wong’s appearance in the She-Hulk trailer left many wondering which role will this character have in the series. Fans already have several hypotheses about it, starting with the theory that Wong could be trying to recruit Jennifer Walters to defend the universe. This first theory makes sense, considering that Wong tells Walters about the higher power and how they must protect this universe on the verge of destruction. Wong might ask She-Hulk for help to defend the universe, who might refuse at first, leaning on the fact that she’s a lawyer and likes to do things “by the book.”

Another possibility is focused on Abomination, who is currently locked up in a glass “cage.” This second theory suggests that Wong talks to She-Hulk to free him, considering they had a previous encounter. The sorcerer would then team up with the gamma giant to train and teach him to control his abilities. The trailer shows Emil Blonsky detained and suddenly changing to his Abomination form. Wong is sitting watching this scene, implying that he requested this audience to test this villain’s control of his powers.
Wong seems to have a secondary role in terms of prominence in this series. However, his presence could be essential to providing part of the context of Abomination’s release. She-hulk might oppose this because of Blonsky’s repeated attempts against her cousin Bruce’s life.
Wong’s Appearances in the MCU
Wong’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe dates back to the first Doctor Strange movie. He was the head of the magic library and helped the protagonist to find the books for his preparation. In this same film, he fights the dark order and takes charge of the New York temple with the doctor.
His second appearance would be in Avengers: Infinity War, when a defeated Bruce Banner lands in the Sanctum Sanctorum. Wong fights with Iron Man and the other heroes against Thanos’ army until they kidnap the sorcerer supreme, leaving Earth. Wong would appear again in Avengers: Endgame as part of the army that seeks to confront Thanos and prevent him from destroying the universe.

Later, he would appear in the movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as one of the contenders in the tournament of the ten rings. Here is where Wong would face Abomination, defeating him. The She-Hulk theory suggests that Wong is training Abomination to control his powers better through the ten rings tournament.
Wong also has short participation in the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. He is the one who receives Peter Parker in the sanctuary when he goes to see Doctor Strange to perform the spell. Wong’s latest appearance was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where he helped the sorcerer supreme to travel through dimensions and save America Chavez.
