If you’re excited about the upcoming Pokémon MOBA, then you’re not alone. This popular genre of gaming is getting treatment from one of the most iconic franchises in the world. Who wouldn’t be excited? That said, it’s a lot easier to get excited about something when you know it’s coming soon. Hopefully, one week of waiting time is short enough for you. That’s right: the long-awaited release date of Pokémon UNITE was announced and the game is set to launch on Nintendo Switch this month. Here’s when you can expect the game to show up on the Nintendo eShop.

Pokémon UNITE is set to release on July 21 worldwide according to the Pokémon Company International and TiMi Studio Group. A release announcement came today and got me thinking about how potentially huge this title could really be. Developer Timi Studios, known best for the Call of Duty mobile game, knows a thing or two about making a hit game. While this isn’t mobile per say, it is on the most mobile platform in console gaming. Plus, it’s getting to use the expansive Pokémon IP library. That’s a recipe for success.

If a MOBA is going to work for Pokémon fans, then it needs to have a few things. Firstly, gameplay is going to need to be compelling enough to keep players interested. After I wrote my Pokémon Cafe Mix review, I never touched it again. You know why; the novelty wore off and it just wasn’t good on its own as a game. The Pokémon charm is incredibly influential and if Pokémon UNITE is going to last, it’s gotta be fun. Plus, it has to feel authentically Pokémon.
