Baldur’s Gate 3 Release Change – PC Sooner, PS5 Later

baldur's gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been the source of hype for many gamers worldwide. However, a recent development might change that. Curiously, it’ll probably increase and decrease the hype simultaneously. I’m talking about the Baldur’s Gate 3 release change.

In a community post, Larian Studios revealed the change. The game will release sooner on PC. However, PS5 players will have to wait further before trying out the game. The PC release coming sooner might come as a response to Starfield. For PS5 players, we still have Blood in Baldur’s Gate to solve.

So, what are the new release dates?

Of course, the main attraction of the community post is the release change. The post mentions a game release on August 3rd and September 6th. That’s for PC and PS5, respectively.

Sure, that looks like a huge change from its release date. And, that’s true for the PC release. August 3rd is around four weeks ahead of the initial August 31st schedule. Luckily, that means that the PS5 delay is only about a week later.

On the other hand, the gap between both consoles becomes huge. Almost a month between both games might cause trouble. PS5 players are a lot more likely to run into unwanted spoilers.

Thus, I’d advise PS5 users against spending too much time on social media.

Different reasons for the change of Baldur’s Gate 3 release

To be fair, those are some pretty solid reasons for the changes. (Image credit: Larian Studios)

Curiously, the reasons for the Baldur’s Gate 3 release change are quite different. The PS5 delay has more to do with performance issues. As you can see above, 60 FPS is the goal. Yet, they need a bit more time to achieve that.

The other option seems to be downscaling to 30 FPS. Other than that, they could decrease graphic quality. And, everyone knows that’s a bad idea in 2023.

For PC, the reason is a lot more cryptic. The statement says it’s to give players “more time to play it.” Thus, I believe this has something to do with Starfield’s release date. Starfield will come out on September 6th. Therefore, the goal is probably to avoid competing with this release.

On the other hand, Starfield won’t come out on PS5. Thus, Baldur’s Gate 3 wouldn’t compete with it.

New information released about Baldur’s Gate 3’s new features

Lastly, Larian Studios revealed a bunch of features coming to Baldur’s Gate 3. We have the Level 12 cap, 11 races and 31 subraces, and a new class.

On the races side of things, we have all D&D classics. But, we can also play as Githyanki, Half-orcs, Half-elves, and Dragonborn. Most races offer between two or three subraces. Dragonborns have ten subraces to choose from. Yet, Humans, Guthyanki, and Half-orcs only have one variation.

Regarding classes, we have a new Monk class with three subclasses. Almost all other classes have a new subclass. That said, Clerics and Wizards are different stories. Clerics get the Knowledge, Nature, Tempest, and War subclasses. Wizards feature the whopping number of six new classes.
