If you’re a fan of both graphic novels and exciting film adaptations, the chances that you’ve seen and read Scott Pilgrim are pretty high. The series by Bryan Lee O’Malley was released between 2004 and 2010 and went on to inspire the 2010 Edgar Wright film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Despite failing to become a success at the box office, the Universal Pictures movie has found a cult following in the decade since its release. While we may not ever get a sequel, a Scott Pilgrim animated series may be in our future. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.
Scott Pilgrim To Potentially Become Animated Series
The comics and film adaptation follows Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) a young adult with little motivation to do much beyond playing in his band and pining after women. He eventually falls for Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a mysterious girl with some pretty intense baggage. Scott quickly learns that he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World had some now-huge names attached, including Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, and Brie Larson. However, even with the intriguing transmedia visuals, the film barely made half its budget back at the box office. After years of word-of-mouth, the growing stardom of its leads, and the unique qualities of the film making it worthy of study in many undergraduate courses, the film found its following. It may be too late for sequel talk, but that doesn’t mean the story can’t continue in some element.

The Future Of Scott Pilgrim Is Animated
In a recent oral history of the film’s creation, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Edgar Wright, Michael Cera, and others involved in the film. The current love for the story became a point of conversation, and everyone had something to say. Cera mentions that he doesn’t think a sequel will become a reality. O’Malley, however, is still very eager to “revisit the characters” and see what they’re up to.
Though he seems careful not to give anything away, Wright adds to the conversation. The director says that there are plans (there isn’t anything “official” yet) to revisit Scott Pilgrim in an “animation way.” He adds that talks have been ongoing with O’Malley and Jared LeBoff (the executive producer of the film). So, it seems like if an animated series of Scott Pilgrim does come to our small screens, we’ll have enough of the same team to give us plenty of hope for a good adaptation.

A Decade Of Rewatches
It’s not just us watchers who still love the story and its characters. Jason Schwartzman, who plays Gideon Graves, mentions the email chain with the “entire cast” that still exists. It may be nearly impossible to get the stars all together again. Though, an animated series could still involve some of our favorite voices.
