Overwatch 2 Server Issues Addressed And Worked On

It’s been a great month for gaming. Today, the first Mario movie trailer released. And, we’ve gotten news about the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel being planned. Yet, it hasn’t been a smooth ride for all games. The Overwatch 2 server issues are the best example.

Overwatch 2 has been highly anticipated by fans. But, that anticipation might have been a bit too much for the game. The servers gathered a bit too many players. Thus, connection issues were quick to appear.

Lengthy queues, connection errors, and even DDoS attacks make up the launch. Luckily, things are starting to look up. Blizzard has started to work on the servers to fix these issues. And, more players have been able to enjoy what the newest title has to offer.

Now, they’ve announced even more fixes. And, they’re taking a more radical approach to resolve the problem. Let’s see what they have in mind.

A rough launch day for the new Overwatch 2

As Forbes reported, Overwatch 2’s debut was far from clean. Most of the changes were an improvement from the old game. But, multiple issues caused the launch to be a disaster. A bunch of bugs plagued players.

Yet, that wasn’t the worst part.

The Overwatch 2 team had to face two DDoS attacks during the release. That made the transition to Overwatch 2 as difficult as it could get. Players also had to face long queue times. But, that’s fairly normal for launch dates for free-to-play games.

Still, that caught players off guard. Some waited entire days just to get to play the game. And, many spent hours in queue without results. Plus, some account inconsistencies were also among the reports. Some users saw their progress reset when switching accounts.

Overwatch 2 server issues not ignored by developer

That said, the Overwatch 2 server issues haven’t gone unnoticed. Developers just announced that a number of fixes were on their way. The main targets were login issues and queue times. So, that might mean that queues weren’t solely because of player volume.

The fixes were so big that the servers would be offline during the rollout. The downtime schedule split into two phases.

The first phase would see the servers down while rolling out fixes. They’ll focus on login, account merging, and first-time users. Naturally, players wouldn’t be able to play the game during this fix.

Then, we have the second stage. They’ll upgrade the databases to improve player queue times. So, the issue might have more to do with server structure than mere player numbers.

That said, I’m glad to see the team is ready to fix the issues as soon as possible. I’ve personally had several friends try to play the game. And, they’ve barely had the chance to play a couple of rounds per day.

Queue times aren’t the only problem for Overwatch 2

Yes, queue times are a big pain for Overwatch 2 players. But, that’s far from the only issue plaguing players.

For instance, players coming from Overwatch 1 saw issues with account consistency. Returning players went into the new user experience. So, they saw that previously-unlocked heroes and items were locked. Luckily, logging out and back in usually solved the problem.

Another issue was the “Unexpected Server Error.” Players couldn’t log into the game because of it. Moreover, currency, cosmetics, and items weren’t appearing when they should.

Other players saw themselves suddenly disconnected from the servers. That made competitive play a risky move. And, a couple of DDoS attacks were the cherry on top of this cake.

Luckily, the developers have responded quickly to these issues. And, players have experienced a better game today. We might see a stable game within a few days.
