The LEGO adaptation games have covered some of the most popular film and comic franchises over nearly the last two decades. From Batman hijinks to Avengers and Marvel heroes, many of our favorite heroes and characters have gotten the brick-building treatment. No franchise, however, found more success with this LEGO format than the Star Wars franchise. The first six movies in the now 9-film series serve as the narrative for some of the best LEGO games. Now, it’s 2022 and with the addition of the Sequel Trilogy, my impressions of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga are overwhelmingly positive. With nine films to explore and a gorgeous new engine that runs the game, Star Wars fans and LEGO game fanatics can’t pass this one up.
It’s 2022, and the LEGO Games Are Still a Blast

To begin, I hopped into the first film, The Phantom Menace. This seemed a good place to get a taste of what my impressions of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga might be. From the moment I started the game, I was really loving the visuals which are noticeably improved from the original versions of the first six films. Plus, something sort of struck me in a way that I hoped for but didn’t assume: the LEGO games are still a ton of fun. The worlds you can interact with feel expanded here with more environments to destroy for Studs, the game’s currency that helps you unlock tons of things.
One of those unlockable things is now upgrades for your characters. These improvements include speed boosts. Plus, unlock fun new abilities you can take advantage of in the new combo system for combat. You can pull off some really fun attacks with a combination of three inputs for assaults on your droid enemies. This adds an easy layer of complexity to the typical button-mashing we see in these sorts of games. Make no mistake, the linear nature of the game and the goofy humor still aim to please younger players. That said, these games do what any aged gamer can enjoy: immerse you in a Star Wars experience that offers fresh takes on our favorite movie moments.
From the moment I was pod-racing, I knew the familiar things I loved about these games would still come through, just in an improved light. Heading over to The Force Awakens, I enjoyed getting this familiar LEGO Star Wars treatment for the Sequel Trilogy. Since the release date announcement, I’ve looked forward to checking this game out and I’m seeing very little that I don’t like. Without having spent more than 10 hours in the game, I can’t speak on its overall package, but what’s here is a great new way to revisit the LEGO Star Wars world with the latest films included in the package.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Offers Plenty to Love

If you’re a fan of LEGO Star Wars, then you’re probably eager to hop into the new and improved experience. The good news is that you’re not starved for LEGO Star Wars fun. This past October’s Terrifying Tales on Disney+ offered some of that patented LEGO slapstick humor with a bit of freight. We even got a Lego Star Wars Holiday Special in 2020 that was really well done. Overall, the appeal of Star Wars is not something I need to go into. We all know that we love it for many reasons. The LEGO spin on things, however, is a bit tougher for some to understand. Overall, my impressions of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga mirror why I think these two IPs are a match made in heaven.
Other LEGO games don’t quite capture the wit and joy delivered in these Star Wars experiences. In fact, 2022 seems like so far away from 2005 when the first LEGO Star Wars game released. What continues to make these classics however is the understanding they have of how to make our favorite Jedi and other characters silly without making them a joke. The themes of family, companionship and right versus wrong are still here. They’re just a little sillier, and who couldn’t love that?
I don’t dislike the Marvel and DC LEGO games but Star Wars hits the tone just right. Now, you can enjoy all nine films in one package with improved graphics and deeper gameplay. The simple controls are still here, and there’s plenty to collect in-game, including new challenges on each level. Overall, it’s everything I wanted from this newly remastered collection.
