Our First Look at Game of Thrones Prequel “House of the Dragon” Is Here

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly two years since the Game of Thrones finale aired. Combine this length of time with how long we have been waiting for the next book, The Winds of Winter, it’s pretty clear that fans are in desperate need of some new Westeros content. Fortunately, something is coming (and it’s not winter.) We have just got our first look at the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon. Take a look at the new official images, courtesy of HBO, below!

House of the Dragon will release the first season of ten episodes. While an official release date has yet to be announced, reports suggest that it will be sometime in 2022. The series will be based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, telling the story of House Targaryen. It will take place around 300 years prior to Game of Thrones.

The images give us a first look glimpse at Game of Thrones prequel characters Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), and Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans.) The behind-the-camera showrunners include co-showrunners Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal, along with fellow executive producers Martin and Vince Geradis.

If this has you excited, then you’re bound to receive more good news in the future. There is more Game of Thrones prequels in the works, following news that author Martin has signed a 5-year deal with HBO. All we have to wonder is whether this is just pushing back that The Winds of Winter release date further and further back…
