Peter Sarsgaard Joins Cast of the Batman as (Maybe) Two-Face!

The cast of Matt Reeves’ The Batman is getting bigger and bigger, and now includes one of Peter Sarsgaard. Sarsgaard has some history with DC movies, having starred as the villain Hector Hammond in the ill-fated Green Lantern. While his role in The Batman hasn’t officially been announced, there is one major clue that Peter Sarsgaard might play Two-Face.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Hints of Sarsgaard playing Two-Face on Instagram

In a rather odd Instagram post, Gyllenhaal posted a picture of her husband Peter with half his head shaved and the caption “Half way through his shave.” It would be ironic (in the Alanis Morissette sense of the word) if Sarsgaard does play Two-Face in The Batman. In Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, Maggie Gyllenhaal played Rachel Dawes—Harvey Dent’s love interest. Sarsgaard would certainly make a great Harvey Two-Face Dent, but again, not confirmed.

Sarsgaard Might Play a Different Role Altogether

All Reeve’s tweet said was:

That’s not a lot to go on, but according to JoBlo, there’s a rumor that he’ll play a corrupt police officer named Wasserman. This would be a new character for the Batman universe, and seems unlikely as there are plenty of established corrupt cop characters in the DC Universe, like Harvey Bullock. Why make a new character when Reeves, at this point, could probably get like John Goodman to play Bullock. At this point, his cast is so awesome, it seems like anything is possible.

We Might Not See much Sarsgaard in the First Movie

Reeves has been casting for quite a while now, and Peter Sarsgaard feels like a late edition for a movie that’s already filming. If Sarsgaard does end up playing Two-Face, his role might be similar to Billy Dee Williams’s turn as Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s Batman. Originally, Williams cameoed as Harvey Dent and was meant to come back to play as Two-Face, but when Joel Schumacher took over the Bat-franchise, they decided to go with Tommy Lee Jones. But it’s likely that if Sarsgaard is Two-Face that a) he’ll appear briefly as Harvey Dent and become Two-Face later, or b) he’ll appear briefly as Two-Face and have a bigger role later.

Either way, this is one of the best casts you could ask for.

Oh what could have been. (Image: Instagram)
