Black Panther 2 producer talks about the possibility of X-Men’s Storm’s appearance in the sequel, hinting a new direction for mutants in MCU.
Fans are excited for the showing of the highly anticipated Marvel film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, has left fans devastated and guessing on how Marvel will proceed with the movie.
Black Panther made a mark in the MCU because of its richness in histor. It also heavily featured the Black culture in a a mainstream superhero-action movie. After breaking the box office, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is finally coming to theatres. Following the success of its predecessor, which earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination, its sequel is expected to deliver another action-packed adeventure. More so, Black Panther 2 producer teases the possible cameo of Storm in the sequel, which might lead to the introduction of mutants in MCU.
Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever tackles the political turmoil within the futuristic nation of Wakanda after the death of King T’Challa and a new enemy hidden under the sea. The main antagonist in the movie is Namor, ruler and protector of Talokan. In the comics, T’Challa frequently clashed with Namor which made him an interesting opponent for the Black Panther movie. He was initially included in the first Black Panther film but due to issues on character rights, it was shelved and was replaced with another storyline.

Black Panther 2 Producer On Storm’s Possible Cameo
Another interesting character we might see in the movie is the weather Goddess, Storm. The two met when they were kids after Storm rescued T’Challa who was being attacked by a group of kidnappers. It may sound cliche that sparks flew but the two felt an instant connection, but eventually parted ways. After many years, they met again with T’Challa being the King of Wakanda and Storm as part of X-Men.
In 2006, Black Panther Volume 4: #18 T’Challa married Storm and became one of the most powerful couples in the comics. Their wedding took place during the “Civil War Cease Fire Event and was attended by most of the Avengers and X-Men.
Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore said in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant that there may be chances of Storm showing up in Wakanda. This may lead to the introduction of other mutants in MCU but will still be a few years away.
“Well, Storm’s relationship with Wakanda in publishing is interesting. Obviously, we might be a few tears out from the X-Men, so I’m not sure we’re there yet. Who else from Wakanda have we not introduced? I mean there’s a pretty deep bench, actually, And especially, I think, Ta-Nehisi’s run introduced a lot of key characters that would be fun to export. Even characters like Vibraxas, which are more Fanstastic Four characters. But yeah, it’s pretty deep bench. OI think there’s a lot more stories to tell on Wakanda for sure.”
The Future Of Mutants In MCU
In a previous interview, Tenoch Huerta, the actor playing Namor, said that his character is a mutant, which is an addition to the growing list of mutants in MCU. The trailer Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also featured other MCU characters like Ironheart and the Midnight Angels. The introduction of the latter characters might lead to a spinoff show for Okoye and the Dora Milaje.
Disney+s’ recently concluded Ms. Marvel is also another story that introduced us with the mutants in MCU. It tells the story of Kamala Khan, a high school student and fangirl of Captain Marvel. After receiving a bangle from her grandmother, she gained the ability to harness cosmic energy and create hard light. Her new-found powers got the attention of the Department of Damage Control. Kamala becomes a well-loved figure in their community and takes the superhero name, “Ms. Marvel” after her beloved Avenger.
The final episode of the Disney+ series shocked its viewers. Kamala possesses a genetic mutation which is opposite in the comics. In the comics, she’s a newly awoken Inhuman. But MCU chose to bury that plot and chose the mutant path for the show. This gives hope to the resurgence of other mutants in MCU like X-Men.
With Ms. Marvel’s ending and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hitting up the big screen, X-Men might already be in the works. When and how that will happen is still the big question.
